I don't know how I feel about a show having a "triple main event", seems like that renders "main event" meaningless, but it makes for a clever slot machine visual at least. Whenever i hear triple main event i always necessary follow it up with "also known as No main event" from OSW.

It's interesting that the midcard TBS Championship is getting top billing over the Women's World Championship. I guess that's the Mercedes factor. Honestly, it comes down to who is more exciting, Serena Deeb or Mercedes? Willow and Toni are both amazing but imo one has a better dance partner for this event. Deeb is technically awesome but I find her to be a bore. I just feel a bit bad for her, coming back from odd seizures to have this title shot has be overshadowed by all of the other good stuff on the PPV but again she did not do much to make it interesting so thems the breaks.

It was something that's plauged her career since nXt The only thing that bothered me is the fake laugh she does, just like she did in WWE. But she sounded much better. And Willow's promos the last two weeks have been off the charts.

In a way it was the same issue Toni Storm had pre Timeless?

Part of hte problem Toni had was that "semi punk rock chick" is a great indy gimmick... you can walk into any place and pretty much everyone will know what your gimmick is... but there's not a ton of meat behind it.. so if you are working a place like every week it's actually kind've limiting. Timeless Toni has a lot more setup to it but because of that you can do more with it.

"Loves Motley Crue" is just not a character with legs, but I think even past that, Toni's had promos cut in and around her NXT time and even before it where she's got some weird delivery to all of it, and I think part of the problem was her trying to straighten out and normie-ify it that led to her sounding really stiff because she was just trying to cut a normal promo. But the f***ing insant she started working a really weird character she suddenly had the voice, mannerisms, and the weird whims down in a heartbeat. All the strange turns of phrase, the delivery, the voice... It wasn't something she even seemed to workshop, she just had it. It makes me wonder if she's been able to do this stuff but never really had the chance to. Shit was night and day.

Given just how aggressively, delightfully weird and lewd her sense of humor has turned out to be, it's easy to guess how she probably tried to tamp down so much of herself that she ended up without any of her own personality. I can also see how it's hard to go out guns blazing with this sort of stuff...AEW already had a lot of faith in her before she started getting outrageous. It's kind of hard to be a mid or low carder with that kind of bravado - if you are even given promo time - and you can't count on a promoter to give you good foils like she has had in Renee, Mariah, and Luther.

I think it is odd that just when myself and (based upon the comments in this thread) many others think she is really starting to get her character in shape that Dave thinks "enough is enough". While I don't think it's a crisis or anything, I think Meltzer has a point here and I think this past Wednesday's segment highlighted the problems because it went pretty well. That was Mone functioning perfectly well, and she felt a little odd and out of place in the verbal exchange - sort of like the segment started over from Willow's piece to Mone's response, a jarring dissonance in their delivery styles. That didn't stop the segment from functioning, and we're hitting the point of Mone's run where the contrived wait for her to wrestle is no longer the overriding concern, so it's easier to pick out how her presentation can clash without being bad in a vacuum.

I remember her cutting a very wacky sort of promo in either one of the MYCs or early in her NXT time where she had some dramatic facial expressions, and all I could think was "Yeah they're not letting her do this ever again" because that is just not a way that WWE lets women be. Then obviously she got to AEW where the women were barely getting meaningful promo time (a very good change recently with lots of women talking) but she was able to carry her presence with workhorsing the f*** out of things. It's absolutely a miracle she got the time she did, and it's a testatment to the early interest she got at the exact right time for AEW to clearly start giving even crumbs more to women.

Thought she was pretty good last night. She works so much better as a heel To me she's getting more comfortable, but she still sounds stiff. It was something that's plauged her career since nXt Historically the problem I've always had with Mercedes' promos is that she just talks too fast, and doesn't enunciate, so she tends to sound like she's speed-reading a script and trips over herself. I haven't watched her AEW promo work so that may have gotten better.

She's gotten better at AEW but she still suffers from those issues.

This is from yesterday
Willow obviously retained the title today, and its more than obvious Mercedes is beating her next Sunday.

Given enough time and the right position on the card, I'm confident Mercedes will show next weekend why she was worth the money and the hype

If the idea was always for Mercedes to be a heel this has mostly worked. Got the initial welcome pop out the way and made me dislike her presence. It's rocketed Willow up my favourite list and if the goal is to boost the division its worked in that sense.
If it's a pivot or that's not the plan and we're back in another Codyverse, "real" world champion limbo where she's presented as a face while acting a heel it's not so good. However I think they're leaning into it now so I'm hopeful it's not.

However I think they're leaning into it now so I'm hopeful it's not. I have to think they’re going with Mone as a full-blown heel. Otherwise I think they would’ve had her first match and feud with a clear heel. And this can definitely skyrocket Willow to the top of the division if they keep pushing her strong after the Mone feud.

Mercedes at best is a tweener but there's been nothing heely at all about Willow, and she's only getting more popular. It's unfortunate that Mercedes' wrestling style suits a face better because her character work is so much better as a heel
