Hello, hello, hello once again ladies and germs! It is time once again to pass judgement on the year in terms of video games. This year there have been some new changes with FAN's end of the year video game awards. First off, obviously, is the name of them. This time I checked, and double checked, and triple checked, and no one else has named their video game awards the Gilded Gamepads, so ha! Secondly, we have some new award categories this year, bringing our total to a massive 32 awards, 5 more than last year. Finally the newest change is there will be double the winners this year as I have decided to separate votes from readers/normal forum members and FAN staff members. As such each category will have a reader's choice award and a staff pick award. You will have until midnight central time on Tuesday, December 11th to get your votes in. That's one week folks! As always you don't have to vote for every category, and you can send in votes both via PM and by posting in this thread. Also, just want to point out that there are two games intentionally not up for nomination this year. The first is Street Fighter x Tekken. The reason for this game being left out is well Capcom caused a giant clusterf*** around the game, and as such they shouldn't be recognized for the game. The other is Far Cry 3, and that's simply because that game literally came out today. I know earlier in the year I said that I would include it despite being delayed so late in the year, but you can blame Spike for this, as they just had to have their VGAs so early this year(and remember, our game awards is partially a "take that"/"fixing" to/of the VGAs), so almost none of us have had a chance to play and digest Far Cry 3. Sorry. And remember, for a game to be nominated, it had to be released in North America this year and also had to be an original release, ports/rereleases that did not have major significant changes do not qualify(sorry, Persona 4 Golden). And without further ado, the nominees, folks: Game of the YearBorderlands 2 Dishonored Journey Mass Effect 3 The Walking Dead Studio of the YearArkane Studios Four Leaf Studios Lab Zero Games Telltale Games Thatgamecompany Best Multiplatform GameAssassin's Creed III Borderlands 2 Dishonored Mass Effect 3 The Walking Dead Best Xbox 360 GameDust: An Elysian Tail Fez Forza Horizon Halo 4 Trials Evolution Best PS3 GameDyad Journey Papo & Yo Tokyo Jungle The Unfinished Swan Best Wii/Wii U GameThe Last Story New Super Mario Bros. Votes sent. Sadly, not playing all of a certain episodic zombie game forced my hand to make another choice for some of my votes.

Come on people, let's get those votes flowing in!
So far a rather lacking amount of participation compared to last year. With the current amount of votes I'd have to scrap the split awards and combine all the votes into one pool and do it in a winner and runner up format instead.

It's okay, just count my votes ten times.

I'll be honest none of the games here have really grabbed me as anything amazing unfortunately. I don't actually think 2012 was a good videogame year.
Best game I played this year was Transformers FoC which kind of says everything to me about 2012 for videogames.
I'd have probably voted Dragonborn as best DLC though, not Dawnguard.

Dishonored is in way too few categories. And I cannot in all conscience vote for an unfinished game (ME3) for GOTY or Day 1 DLC (ME3 again).

There's a 30 day waiting period for console versions of games, what's wrong with the developers making a little extra content in the mean time?

The ending was bad, yes, but to call the game unfinished is laughable. And Dishonored is in pretty much every category it could possibly be nominated for, mate. In fact the only awards it is possible to be nominated in that it isn't is Best Original Score, Best Male Voice, and Best Graphics. Orignal Score wise it is one of the few games that I had to make the decision to leave off. Male Voice wise, let's be honest, there wasn't any really standout performances by a male character in Dishonored. There were a lot of serviceable performances(thus why it is up for Best Voice Cast), but nothing outstanding. And Graphics wise, come on man, there are some really bad textures in the game and a crap ton of jaggies everywhere. It has great style to it(thus why Art Style and Art Direction), but from a technical standpoint, it is pretty bad. If you think Dishonored should've been nominated for a platform award, sorry man, but that's the entire point of the Multiplatform award. The platform awards are, generally, reserved for platform exclusives only.

I stand by my opinions and I certainly won't be changing them about ME3. And I played Dishonored on the PC, not the consoles. Hence the graphics.

It makes a huge difference when the squad size has been so reduced. Just compare it to ME2. It's just pointless nickel and diming when the whole structure of ME3 is based on making money from the multiplayer boxes that you buy.

It's stuff they made at the same time as the rest that they make you pay for. It's basically selling you something and then going "Hey, forgot to add this! Well, that's gonna cost extra even though it's part of the thing you already paid for". I don't mind paying for DLC, but making you pay for things that should already be in the game is BS.

The Mass Effect DLC wasn't anything that "should've" been in the game. It was an extra character. Hell, I didn't even activate it for my first playthrough. And in most cases it isn't made along with the main game, it's made in the aforementioned waiting period. The actual game development doesn't continue until the day before release for console games, the game is finished long before that. It seems like everyone nowadays sees stuff that companies like Capcom do and automatically think that all DLC is a cashgrab or nickel-and-diming.

And voting is closed!
I got more than enough votes to split it between readers and staff, but I will instead still just combine all the votes into one large pool and will do a winner and a runner up as doing it that way will lead to some interesting results.
