Alright, gang. Here's the official thread for the 2011 NCAA Football Bracket Challenge!
For those who hate how the BCS picks a champion, this is for you! We have our 16-team playoff bracket to determine the National Champion of College Football.
Here's how the bracket turned out.
1) LSU 16) Louisiana Tech
8) TCU 9) Virginia Tech
5) Southern Miss 12) Alabama
4) Wisconsin 13) Kansas State
6) West Virginia 11) Stanford
3) Oregon 14) Northern Illinois
7) Clemson 10) Boise St
2) Oklahoma St 15) Arkansas St
Through a selection committee, we went with the 11 conference champions as well as 5 wild cards that were ranked the highest from BCS rankings. Except with one major rule: Only 2 teams per conference were allowed. Hence why Arkansas missed the tournament.
I'll be simulating the games on NCAA 12 for the next few days. All you have to do is pick who wins which game, all the way up to the National Title game.
The scoring is simple: 5 points for a correct pick, 0 points for an incorrect pick. If there's two that are tied at the end of the Challenge, the tiebreaker will be whoever picks the closest to the correct score of the championship game.
Brackets will be taken until 11:00 PM CST on Monday. So you have until then to send me your brackets.
Good luck!!

Also, would you prefer I do highlights game by game or would you rather have a summary by round?

Whichever is more convenient for you would be fine.
I am interested in seeing how this progresses though. I made my picks based on what I thought the game would rate the teams, hopefully I was right.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been busy lately, and I kinda came down with a head cold this weekend.
'But let's begin with a recap of the first round of the 2011 FAN NCAA FOOTBALL BRACKET CHALLENGE!!!
First matchup, LSU v. Louisiana Tech
It looked like the WAC Champion would have a tough game against the SEC Champion and current no. 1 ranked team in the nation. But it wasn't a defensive struggle like most people thought. Nor was a blowout like most people thought. It was a Louisiana-style shootout, with both teams raking up over 600 total yards. The Bayou Tigers were able to pull this one out, but it was a tough one, 70-41.
Second matchup, Virginia Tech v. TCU
Another tough matchup, but TCU was in control of this one from the word go. The Hokies would put up a couple late scores, but the Horned Frogs were too much, and would end up in the second round, 28-14, and on to face the LSU Tigers at the Cotton Bowl.
Third matchup, Wisconsin v. Kansas St
The Big Ten champions came our rolling, and rolled over the Wildcats 29-17. Another matchup where it wasn't really as close as the score turned out to be.
Fourth matchup, Southern Miss v. Alabama
The surprise Conference USA champions took it to Alabama in this game, and it took every ounce of strength from the Crimson Tide to walk out of Southern Miss with a win. In the end, they were able to pull it out, 34-31, and will face Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl.
Now for a change of music for our next four matchups.
Fifth matchup, Oklahoma State v. Arkansas State
Holy crap. This one wasn't even close at all. Arkansas State walked into OSU territory and was DESTROYED. The Cowboys rolled, 62-7, over..........over...........what the hell is Arkansas State's mascot anyways?
Sixth matchup, Clemson v. Boise State
The ACC Champions were the favorite going into this one. But once again, the Tigers fell flat on their face when it came to a tough opponent, and Boise State ran away with this one, 35-6. The Broncos will face the Cowboys in the Fiesta Bowl.
Seventh matchup, Oregon v. Northern Illinois
Once again, another one that wasn't even close at all. The Huskies were outmatched against the much faster Ducks. And Oregon just ran over Northern Illinois, 55-3.
Eighth matchup, West Virginia v. Stanford
The Big East champions were looking to prove that the Big East wasn't just a washed-up conference, even though they plan on bolting to the Big 12 as soon as they can. But unfortunately, no one told Stanford this, as they completely ran over the Mountaineers, 59-17. It will be a rematch of epic proportions, as Oregon takes on Stanford in the Alamo Bowl.
So here's the second round pairings:
Cotton Bowl: (1) LSU v. (8) TCU
Capital One Bowl: (4) Wisconsin v. (12) Alabama
Fiesta Bowl: (2) Oklahoma State v. (10) Boise State
Alamo Bow: (3) Oregon v. (11) Stanford
But that's all for now. Tune in next Sunday when we have a special Christmas review of the second round. Until then, so long!

I lied. I'm gonna do it early. Maestro, please!
And welcome to the second round edition of the 2011 FAN NCAA FOOTBALL BRACKET CHALLENGE!!
Up first, we have LSU vs. TCU at the Cotton Bowl.
Even though they were the away team, TCU must've felt like they were the home team, being at Cowboy Stadium. Even going up against the no. 1 ranked team in the country, they showed no fear, coming out and going up 21-0 on LSU early on. That was a hole that LSU couldn't even overcome, and TCU upset LSU, 38-26.
Next, we had the Big Ten/SEC Clash, with Wisconsin vs. Alabama at the Capital One Bowl.
Wisconsin went toe to toe with 'Bama early on, and even held the lead 27-17 going into the fourth quarter. But Alabama made an epic comeback, taking the win over Wisconsin, 31-27. Alabama moves on to face TCU in the fabled Rose Bowl.
Up next, Oklahoma State vs. Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl.
Both teams looked great in the first round, putting up 62 and 35 points, respectively, while holding their opponents to 7 and 6 points, respectively. This looked like it was going to be a shoot-out, but it was quite the opposite, as Boise State held OSU to only 14 points, and we had another upset, as Boise State moved on, 23-14.
Finally, we had the rematch of the Pac-12, the Oregon Ducks facing the Stanford Cardinal.
The Ducks were fired up, coming out in their all-yellow ensemble. Another game that was thought to be a shoot-out as well, it was also quite the opposite. Stanford held Oregon to only 2 field goals, and was able to put away the Ducks in an upset, 16-6. Stanford moves on to face Boise State in the legendary Orange Bowl.
With two rounds down, and only two left, the excitement is heating up. So don't go too far, as we'll have the semis and the National Championship posted as well.

And here we are! The Final Four of the 2011 FAN NCAA Football Bracket Challenge! Maestro! First off, TCU v. Alabama in the Rose Bowl! Alabama started off with a bang, and didn't stop the beatdown. TCU came out flat, and it hurt them all game. In the end, Alabama stomped TCU, 31-13, to move into the National Title Game. Next, Stanford v. Boise State in the Orange Bowl! Nobody expected the Broncos to get this far. Then again, nobody expected Stanford to get this far. But here they were, battling it out for a shot at the National Title. And what a game it was. Shoot-out left and right, both teams trading the lead, until late, when Stanford QB Andrew Luck tossed one deep with 48 seconds to go, and Stanford would hold on to win, 36-29. So now, it's come down to this. Two teams remain. Alabama. Stanford. In the end, one shall stand......one shall fall.

And now, the moment you've all waited for. The National Championship. It comes down to the Stanford Cardinal vs. The Alabama Crimson Tide.
Let's get to it!!
In the end, this was probably the shocker that nobody saw coming. Well, this and TCU beating LSU. Stanford walked all over the top ranked defense in the country, while Alabama couldn't do a thing to stop them. On the other end, Alabama couldn't get anything going on offense, and was only able to knock through 2 field goals. In the end, Andrew Luck and Stanford shocked the world, defeating Alabama, 23-6, to win the National Championship.
That's it for the 2011 FAN NCAA Football Bracket Challenge, the final leaderboard will be posted once everything's tallied up.
