Due Hard Directed by John McTiernan. Screenplay by Steven E. de Souza and Jeb Stuart, adapted from Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp. Starring Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, Alexander Godunov and Bonnie Bedelia. My "Three Reasons" why this film is particularly unique: 1. Die Hard contained a break through role for Alan Rickman. 2. This is the first in the still continuing Die Hard series of movies. 3. Lt. John McClane has the best catchphrase for any action hero ever! So I picked Die Hard. This great action movie is a Christmas movie and with that holiday right around the corner I picked this movie. Enjoy watching and discussing Die Hard!

I love this movie, though I always connect it with the time I was watching it and couldn't hear a car crash into a house four doors down because the sound on the laserdisc was that booming.

I would've gone with one of those but I've never seen any of them and do not have access to any of them so....

I love the fact that Alan Rickman's face when he falls to his death at the end is 100% genuine. He performs his own stunts!

My personal favorite Christmas movie...so what if it's not really a Christmas movie in the traditional sense...it takes place during the Holiday, so it counts. Just so much fun to watch, and plenty of action as well. Easily one of the greatest action movies I've ever seen.
I also enjoyed most of the sequels. The only one I was disappointed with was Die Hard 2, because it's basically just part 1 again. That doesn't mean it's a bad movie, just a pretty skippable movie overall. I know many fans don't consider Live Free or Die Hard as a Die Hard movie, but I still liked it overall.

One of the greatest if not the greatest action movie ever. Personally I think Terminator 2 is the best but I'm not going to argue with anybody that says Die Hard.

Die Hard was so successful that is even has it's own subgenre of action movies which rip it off. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_movie#Sub-genresDie Hard scenario - The story takes place in limited location; a single building, plane, or vessel - which is seized or under threat by enemy agents, but are opposed by a single hero who fights an extended battle within the location using stealth and cunning to attempt to defeat them.[15] This sub-genre began with the film Die Hard and has become popular in Hollywood because of its crowd appeal and the relative simplicity of building sets for such a constrained piece. These films are sometimes described as "Die Hard on a...". Among the many films that have copied this formula are Under Siege (terrorists take over a ship), Snakes on a Plane (poisonous snakes take over a passenger plane), Speed, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory and Derailed (hostages are trapped on a train), Sudden Death (terrorists take over an Ice Hockey stadium), Passenger 57, Executive Decision and Air Force One (hostages are trapped on a plane), Con Air (criminals take over a transport plane), and Half Past Dead and The Rock (criminals or terrorists take over a prison). Paul Blart: Mall Cop is a recent spoof of this trend (as Die Hard in a mall).

One of my favorite Xmas movies too (Lethal Weapon as well). It's pretty much the first nail in the coffin if the Arnie and Stallone days of action movies as it features a blue collar, everyman badass rather than a larger than life person.
I still find it odd to think that at the time, Bruce Willis was a stunt casting choice. After all, he was best known for Moonlighting at the time. Then consider one of the original choices for the role: Richard Gere.

Die Hard is to me one of the most definitive action movies ever, along side Predator, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Terminator and Aliens.
By that I mean when someone says action movie it's one of the first ones I think of.

Can't disagree with you there. You hit all the same ones I really think when I hear "action movie"except for "Rambo."

I love that Argyle doesn't realize what is going on at the Nakatomi Plaza at first because he's having a grand old time in the limo.

This reminds me of a member in FAWA (here comes a subtle or not so subtle plug - it'll be over quick ), Jonathan Michaels, whose character has a wife named Sarah Nakatomi, who sometimes hosts a Piper's Pit-style interview segment called... Nakatomi Plaza.

I really like that Christmas is used as a theme throughout Die Hard, with my favorite use of it being when Lt. McClane sends the dead terrorist down the elevator wearing a Santa outfit.
