Not saying they are alike except for one thing. Back in WCW 2000 Billy Kidman had a "career defining win" over multi time world champ Hulk Hogan but really it just proved to be nothing more than a fluke and did nothing at all for him and went to be low midcarder.
Now fast foward to WWE 2007 last night Jeff Hardy may have had a career defining win over former world champ Triple H, although to me it feels like Kidman all over again with what Triple H's reaction was after he lost and seemed to say "Damn he beat me like that oh what a fluke". So now my question is will Hardy just be another Billy Kidman? Or will he make something of this win?

Jeff's time is now....raw has so few main event faces and if Jeff delivers the goods at the Rumble he will be world champion soon

One thing, though. Hardy has been getting a good amount of pops this year and had a couple of decent IC title runs. Kidman didn't have any of that. Plus, Hardy was one half of the perhaps the most over team of the last decade. His credentials are a lot better than Kidman.

I think Jeff will be different. I don't think WCW really had any stock in Kidman at all, whereas the WWE seem to have an idea for Hardy.
Wait and see, I say.

Kidman's win did nothing for him because he wasn't that over to begin with and no one really bought him against Hogan, so that's why his matches had to have heel refs and tons of outside interference. Him beating Hogan clean would be a joke honestly unless it was a rollup pin and besides Kidman was a heel unlike Hardy, so he had to have interference to keep his heel heat.
Hardy is much more over than Kidman would ever be and he'll be getting a World Title shot unlike Kidman.

Hardy is a whole lot more over than Kidman ever was... the impression that I got was that Kidman was a project of one of the creative guys that was partially derailed by Hogan refusing to do a real job for him, and partially by lack of sufficient being-over-ness.

I hope so
Can not stand Jeff but by all accounts it doesn't look the same as the Kidman situation

It all depends on the follow up. Don't forget Shelton has wins over and Triple H too, and we see how they followed up on that.

Big difference. Kidman's "rise" was forced by Russo. The fans werent even close to being ready for Kidman even close to the main event. Wcw did this. In Jeff's case, his rise has happened because of the fans. Hardy is as over as anyone right now, Vince sees that, and is capitalizing on it. So, I really don't even think you can compare the two.

No.
WWF/E Billy Kidman = a roided up Michael Scott (The Office)
And if anyone wants to argue about the "roided up" he probably does not remember him from WCW, look up old pics and while doing that also see: "Guerrero, Eddie" and "Benoit, Chris"

It all depends on the follow up. Don't forget Shelton has wins over and Triple H too, and we see how they followed up on that. Shelton's win was a shock, surprise win but it didn't have anything riding on it as such. The win in this match for Jeff will really elevate him. He gets a title shot, he will be headlining for his brand at one of the big 4, so he's really getting put out there. I thought the story telling in the match was fantastic, as was the build up to it. HHH saying he wouldn't hold back on Jeff as there was a title shot at stake means that the title looks good, and it doesn't cheapen Jeff's win as being against a less focussed HHH, who was clearly up for giving his all in the match. Jeff beat a fully focussed game, and while it was with a roll up he got a decent amount of offense in, so it wasn't a sqaush gone wrong of Super Crazy over Kennedy proportions. Jeff was made to look like HHH's equal, who matured after HHH made him fight. No similarity to Kidman.

Jeff is nothing like Kidman. First off, Jeff has earned his spot. He's been consistently over in every city they've gone to for the last year and a half. He's put on great matches with many top stars, and I don't think the Royal Rumble will be any exception. This push has been running very smoothly thus far and doesn't seem forced at all.

Kidman was a good crusierwieght wrestler put into a no-win push with the Orange Goblin- and that fued probably hurt Kidman more than helped him- on the other hand he was with Tori Wilson- so he always gets mad props
but Hardy is way over with the vox populi and seems credible and tough enough to get a title run- we shall see

Hardy should deliver big time if he want to stay in the main event spot. Trips was ok with the job because he wants to win the rumble or be the one to end Flair's career at Wrestlemania. Hardy can be tested in a title match in the only PPV of the year that doesn't sell because of the title match. Orton can keep his title at the RR and wait for a new feud with the winner of the Rumble or the winner of the Elimination Chambers at NWO.
Jeff was really at the right place at the right time...he now have to take his chance.

I think that WWE is really about to push Jeff Hardy but I'm still not sure yet if I would buy him as a long term WWE champion...short term maybe.
Let's not forget that Jeff has defeated HHH in the past during the Two Man Power trip era if I'm not mistaken. It was for the IC strap too I believe.

Wasn't the fact that Hardy>Kidman established 7 or 8 years ago? Kidman's career isn't remotely close to Jeff's on the accomplishment scale, in terms of titles won, big matches, overness with the crowds, or anything else really.

Uh, Jeff Hardy was NWA World Heavyweight Champion...that must stand for a least a little bit, yes?
No? Well, I suppose he could do okay. He needs some legit wins over Trips, or it might go sour.
My first thought was 'Is Hardy with Torrie Wilson now?"
