All this "Drug Free, look at me I'm clean-cut-straight-edged good boy who drinks ALL my milk and has a big corporate tattoo. I love Pepsi don't you, it's yummers!!" stuff would have been irritating in 1999, I'm convinced of it.

Punk would be working as a heel if this was the Attitude Era. But now wrestling needs a role model so I expect Punk to play face for quite a while.

I just don't get why "i don't take drugs" is a boast or a reason to like him. It's like getting a "I don't rape people" tattoo. What do you want a medal?

i think he would have gotten more over in 99. the straight edge movement was probably stronger back then. and the audience back then was quite ..... hot topic.

I'm still waiting patiently for his heel turn in the coming years. Looking forward to it in fact. Even if it isn't the "better than you straight edge' deal, Punk has always worked better as a heel IMO.

1999 wasn't probably ready for CM Punk. In a few more years, yeah, especially when people found out about how wrestlers died.

If it were 1999, CM Punk would have been fairly young and inexperienced and would have been a jobber on Jakked. If 2007 CM Punk would have wrestled in the Attitude era, I think he would have been just as successful if not more.

Straight Edge was an 80's thing so just as many people would have gotten used to it by the 90's.

If he was around in 1999, he would have been a top heel feuding with the beer drinking redneck.
Its a natural feud.

Is it time for this week's "If blah blah blah, CM Punk would be/wouldn't be blah blah blah" thread already? Shall I go ahead and start up the new "Did Macho Man rape Stephanie?" thread?

I love Pepsi don't you, it's yummers!!" stuff would have been irritating in 1999, I'm convinced of it. The things that you say would be irritating in 1999 are things Punk doesn't do in WWE today. He doesn't talk about Pepsi, milk, or being clean-cut. During his introductory vignettes, he talked about the drug free lifestyle as a way to show how disciplined and competitive he was. He's never played a squeaky clean do-gooder or shilled for Pepsi. You just apparently have a problem with him.

He's irritating now.
I'm tired of him being so self-righteous cause he's 'straight-edge' Ok so you don't do the things the majority of the world does...good for you, but it's not a reason enough for me to like him.
He needs to become a heel and shit on the fans. And the WWE needs to let him wrestle his style.
