Piper and Savage came in after or at the same time as hogan right?
I mean the big faces were Hogan, Snuka, and Backlund. Backlund left for Japan and Snuka got into some trouble.
Beyond Hogan who were the other faces during '84-'85?
Savage became face because of recognizability and due to his friendship with Hulk, and the hatred fans had for honky tonk man.
I don't think Snuka-mania would have caught on.
Hogan was a "big tv star" and a "movie star", he was also known for his time in Japan.
AWA was the most widely distributed television program and Hogan was booked as top dog, when he left I could see a lot of pissed off hulkamaniacs that wanted Hulkster to win the belt from Bockwinkle following Hogan where he would win the WWF title and basically make the WWF title, THE TITLE.

Hogan's arrival brought forth more people to jump to WWE Yes,in part: The WWF took SWCW's spot on the USa network late in'83,making it one of two promotions with a TV program in a prime slot being shown on a national level on an established channel (the other being GCW on TBS,eventually the AWA and WCCW both got deals with ESPN).The "Rock N' Wrestling" era Hogan ushered in, combined with the high profile exposure, gave the WWF the kind of power to be able to offer big money contracts and draw the bigger names away from the regional territories.

He can break it down in the ring if he has to, however his style (much like Cena) is limited because he's Superman. He's also taken a lot of shortcakes. Hogan stole shortcakes? where they strawberry ones? JYD inspired him to grab them cakes.
