On one hand it is incredible how awful Goldberg was. He messed up things as simple as an irish whip and a hiptoss. He clearly was a novice in terms of listening to a match being called (Regal's the type who likely calls it on the fly rather than pre-plans, even with Goldberg.) Further, none of the match was complicated. Goldberg shines via the entrance, Regal outwrestles him for the heat. The hope spots are the times Goldberg busts out some decent reversals. The belly-to-back suplex is the double-down. The spear is the comeback, the jackhammer is the finish. And he couldn't get that down.
On the other hand, I guess it's not Regal's place to make Goldberg look bad unless the management wants that to happen.
It's a weak other hand. That was an incredibly simple match even for a novice like Goldberg. And it's a damn shame that it took a real man's man to be the fall guy for the decision to push Goldberg too early.

it was alot less goldberg sucking than regal no-selling everything to make him look bad.
i like regal, but thats pretty unprofessional.

Very good match, IMO. Spinning Neckbreaker & Shoulderblock near the end were a little off but pretty solid considering what it should've been.

Read Regal's book for the real story, but he wasn't shooting on him or anything like that. They were pushing Goldberg as a Shamrock-like shootfighter. Regal kept giving Goldberg openings where Goldberg was supposed to take advantage, but being so green he didn't. Probably better to read exactly what Regal had to say about it but thats the gist of it.

The match was great, only haters go around spreading shit like "Goldberg f***ed that up" or "Regal did a shoot on him".

The match wasn't THAT bad, and yeah, if you were a smark it really exposed to you how green Goldberg was...but listen to the f'n commentary. They built up Regal as Goldberg's biggest test and how Regal could wrestle circles around him.

Yeah I agree this match was awesome, the commentary really helped tell the story here.

Regal drugs and alcohol problems had more to do with it.

You know, aside from a couple awkward moments, that match had some of the most natural looking counters I've ever seen.

I used to have that match on my computer and from what i remember, it wasn't a bad match at all. on the contrary, you can barely tell as a spectator that Goldberg can't keep up or that on the other hand that Regal is going into business for himself. it all looks natural and for the most part even good.
