New poster for the film. Ethan Haas is about 100% confirmed to be unrelated from what I've read. So it looks like it's a sea monster. So, to me at least, it's either: 1. Cthulhu 2. Wrath of God related

I still think it'd be odd for it to be unconnected, just with the username on YouTube that the clear trailer is on. We'll see soon enough, I suppose. The YouTube removals were due to the fact "Cloverfield" was in the name of a lot of the videos that feature the Ethan Haas bits. Because the video is/was supposedly linked to the movie, people have been putting Cloverfield in the titles and descriptions and when Paramount asked for it to be removed, they just did a mass delete with anything with that string in it. It is being reported its a video game that is set to release in the near future. This, however, could be 100% spin, but I know J.J. Abrams himself has said its unrelated. I don't get why he'd definitively say no to something that would likely generate buzz for this project (not that it needed any more....).

It's not just that, it's that every single one of those with the Cloverfield in the title was with really low quality, digital camera footage, or something of the sort. But the VERY FIRST trailer to come up on Youtube that was perfect quality, was the one EthanHaasWasRight put up. And it was never removed.

Exactly, plus Abrams could just be running a false-flag operation, in that he's saying it has nothing to do with it to throw people off.

Throwing out something like that can actually generate MORE buzz, which is always good. I mean, if we end up being wrong about Cloverfield and Ethan Haas being related, I'll readily admit that I was wrong. I have no problem with that. There's just no conclusive evidence yet to prove that we are wrong.

Yeah, not every sea creature is confined just to water. It could be an enormous sea lion or something Imagine that thing but 15-30 stories tall. Or a walrus even!

I'm not saying you guys are wrong, but outside of the YouTube thing, how did the two things ever really become related? I read it on a rumor website when I was trying to figure out what Cloverfield actually was after watching Transformers and it seemed like it related to the premise of the movie, but I don't really see a ton of connections outside of the "Doomsday Prophecy" bit and the destroyed city scape in the background.
If the rumors are true that the film will be Blair Witch meets Godzilla in regadrs to it being a monster attacking the city as seen through hand-held cameras, it doesn't really make sense that there's a huge backstory with a "prophet" predicting the end of the world.
Even if that's not what the movie actually ends up being about, I still don't really see how the two ever got connected in the first place. It just seems like two things with a similar premise got their viral ad campaigns underway at the same time and the internet ran away with it. I do understand the point about the YouTube thing, and that's a sticking point for me as well, I just see little else to connect the two.

That poster's had some different looks now. One I've seen had "Monstrous" on it and didn't have the date on it like this one does. I've got a feeling someone's been playing in photoshop.

Otter monster invading New York?
Thats as bizarre as that MST3K-mocked movie about the monster attacking London.

At the Paramount Comic-Con press conference, J.J. Abrams dropped some details on his as-yet-untitled horror/monster flick slated for a 1/18/2007 release.
In spite of internet buzz, the movie will not be called "Monstorous."
Abrams said the goal is to produce an American monster movie on-par with Japanese big-rubber-suit classics like Godzilla. Abrams said shooting is all but complete, a new trailer, a poster and more footage are on the way.
Based on the original teaser/trailer, Abrams seems well on his way to achieving a unique, frightening and awesome movie.
