Wow... so much Rocky Horror hate in this thread.
Does this mean I shouldn't bother making any future posts about the cast I'm involved in and our future performances/other endeavors?

Donnie Darko, and I hate how some of the fans of it think the reason you hate it is because you didn't "get it." Yep, Donnie Darko sucks. I also thought Scarface was awful. Just long and very boring.

In most cases, I can find something positive about most "cult films", but it bugs me that, if I don't proclaim it as the "greatest damn thign I've ever seen in my whole life", then I don't undderstand what they were trying to do. I happen to love Princess Bride, but readily admit, while it's a wonderful movie from my childhood that my family and I would watch together (and as such has happy memories attached, and some fun lines) it might not be for everyone. For "cult classic" that I hate, I doubt that this qualifies, but both Chicago and Rent. Yeah, I know, won a ton of awards, and lots of people liked them, but they made me want to kill myself. What made i worse is that, for months, they were all I heard about, and people still bring them up, and tell me how awesome they were. Yeah, gonna pass, or else start drinking again. Also, anything starring Will Farrel. You're not funny, so shut up and go the hell away. Yes, I understood the plot, but damn it, just because it's loud doesn't inject humor. I sat through Elf, and it made me want to punch an old woman in the face then kick her down a flight of stairs. Every day is brighter to me when I meet a fellow Will Farrel non-fan. He just isn't funny! Nothing and no one that has come out of SNL has been funny since '97. Same goes for Jack Black, who is admittedly funnier but only in small doses.

An amazing amoiunt of the films mentioned here are far from being cult movies... but anyway...
Saw some guy do a list of directors he didn't like, and on that list was at least three names I can't understand.
Paul Verhoeven. Come on. Robocop, Total Recall... they're not good? Basic Instinct is more than passable too. But then there's Hollow Man, which is up there along with the worst films I've ever seen.
Jim Jarmusch. Now, in all honesty, I haven't seen all of his stuff, but I liked Broken Flowers, and Dead Man alone is enough to love this man forever. It's also the best movie Johnny Depp's ever been in.
David Lynch. Now. I can understand this... sort of. But, really, even if you don't like his more f***ed up stuff, there's still films like The Elephant Man and Wild At Heart, and of course Twin Peaks (at least the first season). Straight Story was good too. And I love the hell out of Lost Highway. Eraserhead... you have to be in the right kind of mood, but I think it's worth watching at least once. Blue Velvet I haven't seen yet, and I've only seen parts of Mulholland Drive, so ... I don't know.
And to all the people bringing uo Tim Burton... I like alot of he's done. Beetlejuice was fun, Batman I enjoyed (I'm no comics person, so I don't know how faithful it was)... Big Fish just makes me feel good, Sleepy Hollow entertained me... haven't seen all of what he's done though, and honestly, I can't stand the guy. His films I can enjoy, not the man.
Kevin Smith? Really?
... I haven't seen Jersey Girl, but I just find the man funny. Clerks made me laugh, Clerks 2 made me laugh, and so did Jay & Silent Bob (I'll admit to being stoned out of my mind though). Dogma I really liked, and Chasing Amy has its moments. Never saw Jersey Girl.
As for me... Texas Chain Saw Massacre did nothing for me. There are some good scenes, like the opening and the dinner scene, but for f***s sake, most of the film's running time is ... just that... running. And screaming. And running. And screaming. I can see what made it a "classic", and I understand the following it has (hell, a friend of mine is a fanatic), but I just didn't like it very much.
Also, Scarface. First of all, Al Pacino does little more than yelling and screaming and being a dumb motherf***er the whole movie. He's done way better work later, and it pains me that this flashy, eighties nightmare of a gangster fliick is what he's most know for. Then again, I was never a big fan of De Palma.
But really, people. Saying every movie with a large following is a cult movie is just wrong.

I also loved Big Fish, but I think my personal opinion was definately skewed because I saw that film like a week after my grandfather died. Not really a cult film anyway, but I digress.
Never cared for Napolean Dynamite either, but I am surprised to see that the majority of people here didn't like it either. But again, that did pretty well at the box office, so is it really a cult film?
ANYWAY, i've always 'hated' (for want of a better word) the Troma movies.

Even Tromeo and Juliet? COME ON!
Nah. I get you. Troma's not for everyone. Either you love it, or you hate it.
Personally... well, let's just say that I have a bunch of Troma DVD's, including Troma's War.
Terror Firmer's the one I watch most frequently though. It's two hours of over the top gore and mayhem, and I love every second of it. Got to love the fat man being eaten by the escalator. And the Toddster being stabbed to death with his bong. Or in the very beginning of the movie, where some random woman gets her baby ripped out of her stomach. Besides, it has Ron Jeremy dickless and singing Amazing Grace. And pickles. And... Lloyd Kaufman pissing all over two people smufing in the bathroom.
As I said. Love it or hate it. Don't think there's any grey area.

Either you love that toxic waste, or you want to take a week's worth of showers to rub off the smell. Me? I want the good citizens of my local neighborhood by a mutated retard who wears a tutu, bangs a blind chick, and mutilates people in very creative ways. Damn, I gotta review TOXIC AVENGER sometime.

I agree that a lot of the movies mentioned are not cult films, just popular ones. That being said, I have liked most of the movies mentioned thus far, but I do detest Tim Burton films, except for Beetlejuice, Batman, and Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Those are it. The rest is Hot Topic jerk-off material.

I'd like to throw my full support behind the "I hate Kevin Smith" wagon that this thread incorporates.
Guy could'nt make an enjoyable film to save his life.

Now, where can I egg Steven Spielberg's house?

Mallrats wasn't horrible. Dogma was fairly good. Obviously Jersey Girl sucked a big Donkey Dicker. Dogma, Clerks, Clerks 2 for the most part are his good ones. Mallrats was meh, other than Jason Lee's charisma getting noticed for the first time, but the rest of it is a big blur. Oh, and the Magic Eye gag has a warm place in my heart. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was only funny in parts, and Jersey Girl doesn't appeal to me much. Now for my picks. Rocky Horror Picture Show: Now, I like Tim Curry a lot, and he shines, but the film really does suck. I'm bisexual, and I still don't get it, so it's not an issue of orientation. Deliberate campyness kind of defeats the point. Donnie Darko: I am the only person who seems to think it's an "okay" movie. Doesn't suck, no. Isn't great, either. Any M. Night movie other than Sixth Sense. St. Elmo's Fire sucks. I really hate it, I really do.
