I've always wondered this as thousand island dressing is probably my favourite salad dressing (yes I have a list, who doesen't) I imagine its a bit like the Island Godzilla and Godzuki live on with all their monstor chums.

I assume it's to do with the myriad islands in and around the Pacific Ocean.

I've been to the 1000 Islands in New York before...its okay at best, just a lot of those little islands on the St. Lawrence Seaway. The cool thing is the castle off of Wellsley Island.

well here's some history on the dressing Thousand Island dressing has been cited in print since at least 1912, but there are multiple conflicting stories about its origins:
* Sophia LaLonde invented it at Chicago's Blackstone Hotel in 1910[1] substituting mayonnaise for the yogurt used in Russian dressing, and added pickle relish, chives and sometimes chopped, hard-boiled eggs. * The dressing was popularized by one of her dinner guests, actress May Irwin, who gave the condiment its name, after LaLonde's home, the Thousand Islands region of upstate New York and Eastern Ontario. * The name refers to the multitude of small specks of pickle usually found in the dressing. * George Boldt, of Waldorf-Astoria Hotel fame, popularized it by instructing his maitre d'hotel, Oscar Tschirky, to put the dressing on the hotel's menu. Boldt had a home called Boldt Castle on one of the Thousand Islands.

I thought monster island was a peninsula. Depends on which Monster Island you are speaking of. Wasn't there a really bad Monster Island movie made by MTV a few years back?

Actually, if we're going to get specific, the 1000 Islands are a bunch of smaller islands in Lake Ontario, surrounding the coast of New York State and Kingston, Brockville, Gananoque and surrounding cities on the Canadian side. And I've been to Wellsley before...some of my favorite childhood memories are in Cape Vincent, NY.

My family has a house up there and it rocks. It's a great 'go and do nothing' place - I routinely spend long summer months immersed to my eyeballs in the St. Lawrence. And Boldt Castle is cool, gargoyles and all. And every August... PIRATE WEEK!!!
