I think that falls under Rock Yeah, but it has a very poppy sound to it. It's tough with a Pop tourney, because you have to draw the line somewhere.

I think that falls under Rock It's pure 80's Pop Rock so I will count it. It doesn't fall under timeless rock acts (Petty, U2, Aerosmith, Metallica), Hair Metal (Poison, Rat, Twisted Sister), or Hip Hop (Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC) or even arena rock.

Can "King of Pain" by The Police be included in this challenge, or is it too close to "Rock"?

I'm counting The Police in this. Like Insomniac said earlier, you have to draw a line somewhere, but The Police have enough "Pop" in them for me to count.
To Clarify a little bit the only things I don't want to include are:
1)Timeless Rockers. Artists like Tom Petty, U2, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd all had hits in the 80's, but when you think of those bands you don't specificly think "80's". They have transcended anytime period and have become All-Time greats. So that's why I don't want to include them in this.
2) Hair Metal and other Metal of the Time. Twisted Sister, Poison, Rat, Bon Jovi on the Hair side. Guys like Metallica (who could also go in the number 1), Megadeth and Anthrax on the non-hair sid. The big reason I don't want to include these guys is because my list is already HUGE! With this it would double the size and this whole thing would be to big for me to handle. If this goes well, I will give this catagory of 80's music it's own tournament at a later date.
3) Arena Rock. Bands like Queen, Journy, Foreigner go in here. Many of them kind of blend both the first and second catagories. I will be including "I Want To Know What Love Is" by Foreigner since it's their most "Poppy" song, but none of their other stuff. All this will also go into my 80's rock tournament. Though they aren't Arena Rock bands, groups like The Clash belong with this explanation.
4) Hip Hop. Same reasons as number 2. This tourney would have so many songs it's ridiculous.
I'm including groups like Loverboy because their "Rock" was verry Poppy, and they were pretty much a group that when you think of you don't think "Rock 'N Roll" you think "1980's Radio!" When it comes down to it, there is tough line to draw, but I'm doing it the best I can so I can to have as much songs as possible, while also allowing me to keep this tourney under control and have future ones as well.

Alright, it shouldn't be much longer before we start. In order to make it even without having to give any songs a bye in any round I need to get it up to 256. I'm at 236 songs right now. Me and my assistant are working hard to get the rest filled in, get the seeds organized and get links to YouTube ready to go.
