In the quickest round yet, so quick infact I didn't even have time to listen to the songs on You Tube, Tears For Fears moves on. Like most artists in this though, Prince isn't out yet. --------------------- This match matches up a popular one-hit wonder, with the awesome cheese of Europe. Match #5: Soft Cell - Tainted LoveSoft Cell elected to release it as their third single in July 1981. Produced by Barry Knodle the track was recorded in a day and a half with the run through vocal being used on the released version. Buoyed by the then dominant synthpop sound of the time and a memorable performance on Top of the Pops it rapidly reached number one on the UK singles chart, eventually repeating the feat in 17 territories. The following year it charted in the US eventually reaching number 8 in a record breaking 43 week chart run. Vs. Europe - The Final Countdown"The Final Countdown" is a 1986 hit single released by the Swedish glam metal band Europe. It was the first single released internationally from the album The Final Countdown, and was number 1 in 26 countries, selling more than 8 million copies worldwide.

Oh, tough one... but Tainted Love is one of the first songs that comes to mind when I think of 80s Pop.

Soft Cell continues to taint this tournament with their love. Europe's one and only shot at this thing has hit the end of it's countdown. What wit huh? ----------------------- Not much to say about this one besides I think I know who's going to win. Match #6: Lionel Richie - Hello"Hello" is a song by Lionel Richie. It was released as a single in 1984 and reached number one in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and UK singles chart. It is considered by many as Richie's signature song. Arguably the music video attracted more attention than the song, for its story of Richie's character having a seemingly unrequited love for a blind arts student until he discovers she shares the feeling as demonstrated by the discovery that she is sculpting a likeness of his head. The video has been parodied a number of times including a Starburst commercial when the sculpture is made from Starburst. Vs. Laura Branigan - Gloria"Gloria" is a pop song recorded by Laura Branigan in 1982, released as a single and appearing on her debut album, Branigan. Originally written in Italian by Umberto Tozzi and Giancarlo Bigazzi, Tozzi's first recording was a success in his home country in 1979. Working with producers Jack White and Greg Mathieson, Branigan re-recorded the song and brought it to a broader audience. Branigan's gutsy belt drove the song to the top of the charts and earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal of the year. Certified Platinum in the U.S. and remaining in Billboard's Hot 100's top 40 for 22 weeks, Branigan's hit topped charts around the world, peaking at #6 in the UK and notably entrenched at #1 for seven weeks in Australia. Until the 1990s, "Gloria" held the record for most weeks on the Hot 100 by a female, at 36. Widely considered to have launched her career,[citation needed] "Gloria" became Branigan's signature song.
