After reviewing ENTER THE DRAGON, and of course me making my point of how Bruce Lee was the tragic James Dean of Action Cinema....the inevitable question came up.
What if Bruce Lee didn't die?
Some thoughts I've considered....
*ENTER THE DRAGON, as it was in our reality, would be a major box-office hit and be a star-making role for Lee. As he lived in this different timeline, he immediately went back to finish the rest of GAME OF DEATH, his baby project...which along with his previous HK pictures released in America, would be hits as well. He would pushed his directorial and dramatic ambitions further.
*After accidently injuring stuntman Jackie Chan on ENTER THE DRAGON, Lee promised him that he would work on his other films. Would Chan have broken out as a star on his own, or would he have been held back? I say that since without Lee's death, there wouldn't be that "post-Lee" marketplace in Hong Kong that gave Chan his first starring gig.
*By the end of the 1970s, America got tired of the kung fu cinema phase, and perhaps Lee's star would have dwindled in America. Yet Chan would go back to Hong Kong, and stay a perennial mega-star....for now.
*In the 1980s TV movie "sequel" to KUNG FU, Lee plays a rival/adversary to David Carradine, bitter that his role as "hero of destiny" was given to "a Caucasian that dares to pass himself off as Chinese"....they feud until the finale, where they team up.
*In the 1990s, he would make his comeback in the Pop Culture Decade, entrenched firmly as an icon and inspiring movie star. In 2003, he is casted by Quentin Tarantino in his martial arts wank piece KILL BILL, as the blind martial arts expert Pai Mei.
What do you folks think?

Bruce Lee ain't dead you know. They got him frozen in carbonite down under Chatsworth. They're gonna melt him down as soon as the economy gets better. Seriously, you make some good points. I'd hate to see Bruce doing comedies though if he had lived

Leathal Weapon 4 as the main villian instead of Jet Li?
Surreal Life?
Rush Hour 1-3?

Would there be random Bruce Lee facts rather than random Chuck Norris facts?

Bruce Lee is frozen and they're gonna thaw him out once the economy gets better. Seriously, you make some good points. I'd hate to see Bruce doing comedies though if he had lived Well, he probably would have perhaps. I mean, one guy can only do so many serious action movies before wanting to "cross over." Its happened with other action-macho icons, with some success (Eastwood's monkey flicks, KINDERGARDEN COP) and failures (STOP OR MY MOM WILL SHOOT!)

Would there be random Bruce Lee facts rather than random Chuck Norris facts? There is no such thing as Evolution, only the animals that Bruce Lee let live.

Surely, this was to be the last time Bob used Bruce's toothpaste without asking.

He would not be as loved. I'm sure he would still have his fans but it would be more of an underground thing.

Leathal Weapon 4 as the main villian instead of Jet Li? Surreal Life? Rush Hour 1-3? Possible indeed, if his career was that bad at that point.

How much appeal is there because of his available films....or because he was a charismatic young man that died just after hitting a homerun?

Would Bruce have done some awful action movie dreck in the 80's for Golan Globus and Cannon?
I hope he wouldn't have but then we'll never know.

Another thought...
If Bruce Lee had lived, do you think his son's life would have been different? Or would his son have still died the way he did?

I hate to say this but........probably? Most likely. But then there's always the chance that his father's continued career and direct influence on his son may have led to Brandon taking different roles at different times. Not sure how, but it's certainly a possibility.

One has to think that Bruce Lee was more than an actor. He probably would still do movies, but probably not nearly as much as Jet Li or Jackie Chan, whose movies are legion. I agree that the Kung Fu fad decline would diminish his career somewhat, but he could always have returned to Hong Kong himself, or perhaps he would pursue his martial arts training and teaching further.
