IN THE FREAKIN AIR TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PHIL COLLINS AND GENESIS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, now that I voted, can someone provide me a list of the first batch of songs that lost in the first round? Also, was there a nomination period I missed?
By the way, I think Paula Abdul/Straight Up was from 1990, but I could be wrong.

I let the nominations run unlimited for about 36 hours. Let find the first thread for you Stu, so you can see all the songs. And it's 3-2 Collins now.

Also, unless it was remade specifically for the film, the Proclaimers' 500 Miles came out around 1993 for Benny & Joon. Again, I could be wrong.

And Chris Kanyon did the best version of "Do you really wanna hurt me."

It didn't reach fame until 1993 though, thanks to the movie Benny & Joon. officialfan.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=offtopic&action=display&thread=1199815942&page=1Here is the first thread that reached 30 pages. And Chris Kanyon did the best version of "Do you really wanna hurt me." I mean that's obvious. After all, who betta then Kanyon?

Some of those songs are in there, a couple not (Rick Astley, though he is in the tourney), and a lot of that list is going to wait until my 80's Rock Tourney where I'll have all the Heavy Metal, Hair Metal, Glam Rock, Arena Rock, Rock Legends, etc. There were a couple songs/groups that could have leaned either way, but I made choices the best I could with what I had. And it's all tied up 3-3 now. Next vote wins. If this thing stays kind of slow I'll move the needed votes down to 3. It tends to be pretty busy at night is why I have it at 4.

Alright Phil Collins takes this match.
On to match 44, and the needed votes is being lowered to 3 until the nighttime voters get on.

In the longest lasting match of this tournament so far, Phil Collins makes Boy George FEEL THE PAIN! ------------------------------------------------------- In this match one of Madonna's many songs in this tourny goes up against a movie classic that was nominated by Insomniac. Madonna - Live To Tell"Live to Tell" is a single by Madonna from her 1986 studio album True Blue, released on June 30, 1986. It was released as a single three months earlier on March 26, 1986 by Sire Records and is the title song to the 1986 motion picture At Close Range. Vs. Joe Esposito - You're The Best"You're the Best" is a classic 1980s song by Joe Esposito, which came to prominence as the music to the All-Valley Karate Championships montage in the movie The Karate Kid (1984) where the hero, Daniel LaRusso, proves a surprisingly formidable contender. The song remains Esposito's most widely known contribution to the world of music.

Damn, I love that Karate Kid song. But in the end, I gotta go with Madona.
"A man can tell a thousand lies. I learned my lesson well, hope I live to tell the secrets I have learned, will I ever have a chance again."
Or something like that.

Well, things picked up there. Joe Esposito, unlike his nominator, is put to sleep. ---------------------------------------------- Here we have a match against a New Wave great vs. a song I should have made wait until my 80's Rock Tournament, but you know what... I love Transformers to much. ;D Flock of Seagulls - I Ran"I Ran (So Far Away)" by A Flock of Seagulls was a 1982 hit single in the United States and in Australia (where it reached #1). The song's lyrics address the anxiety associated with getting to know a person one may feel attracted to. The song became a hit in the US in the summer of 1982 as a result of heavy rotation of a distinctive music video on MTV. The clip featured singer Mike Score and bandmates performing in a room covered with aluminium foil. The song features an intro that runs 1:33, however this intro is not included in the video. Vs. Stan Bush - The TouchStan Bush is an American singer/guitarist whose most notable work include the songs "Dare" and "The Touch" from the soundtrack to the 1986 American animated film Transformers: The Movie, [1] and "She's Got the Power", featured in the American voice dub of the animated series Sailor Moon.
