You know, thinking back on the Paula match. It was funny, because when I was a kid, my friends sister was always trying to get me to listen to Paula Abdul with her. All I did was pick on her for liking Paula Abdul.

I felt this one coming. I felt it a mile away. --------------------------------------------------------- This is one of Duran Duran's 3 entries in Round 2. The Flock is hanging on by this one song. Duran Duran - View To A Kill"A View to a Kill" is the 13th single recorded by Duran Duran, released in May 1985. It was a stand-alone single, created for the James Bond movie A View to a Kill, and it remains the only James Bond theme song to have reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100; it also made it to #2 on the UK Singles Chart and #6 in Australia. In 1986, John Barry and Duran Duran were nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for A View to a Kill. The song was the last track that the original five members of Duran Duran recorded together until their reunion sixteen years later, in 2001. It was played at their final 1985 performance together, at Live Aid in Philadelphia. Vs. Flock of Seagulls - I Ran (So Far Away)"I Ran (So Far Away)" by A Flock of Seagulls was a 1982 hit single in the United States and in Australia (where it reached #1). The song's lyrics address the anxiety associated with getting to know a person one may feel attracted to. The song became a hit in the US in the summer of 1982 as a result of heavy rotation of a distinctive music video on MTV. The clip featured singer Mike Score and bandmates performing in a room covered with aluminium foil. The song features an intro that runs 1:33, however this intro is not included in the video. The band gained exposure by touring the US extensively to support the single, including a supporting slot on Squeeze's 1982 US tour. The song would go on to reach #9 on the Billboard Hot 100, #3 on the Mainstream Rock chart, and #8 on the Club Play chart. The single failed to enjoy similar success in the band's home country of the United Kingdom, failing to make the top 40 but did reach the top of the charts in Australia. The success of the single led to the album A Flock of Seagulls reaching the US top 10 in 1982. In an interview on the VH1 special "Greatest One-hit Wonders" Score has mentioned that he resents the song, but plays it because people enjoy it.

A Flock of Seagulls- I Ran (So Far Away)
'I checked into the 80's this morning. All there was was a gas shortage and a flock of seagulls - that's about it.'

The Flock wins, I think humanoid did some weird Scientological stuff on us. ----------------------------------------------------------- Dexy's hopes to continue to ride their gravy train, while Hall & Oates have yet another hit to try to get past Round 2. Dexys Midnight Runners - Come On EileenThe song begins with Celtic-style fiddle played over a drum beat, with the bass guitar and piano providing accompaniment. An extended version has an additional intro of a Celtic fiddle solo, playing the Irish song "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms", by Matthew Locke. The chorus was loosely inspired by the song "A Man Like Me" by the 1960s British soul group Jimmy James and the Vagabonds.[1] The bridge of "Come On Eileen" features an improvised counter-melody which begins in a slow tempo and gets faster and faster over an accelerando vocal backing. The chord sequence of the bridge is actually the same as the verses but transposed up by a whole tone. Throughout the song, there are numerous tempo changes and key changes: Vs. Hall and Oates - I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)"I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" is a 1981 song recorded by Daryl Hall and John Oates. It was the fourth number-one hit single of their career and the second hit single from their album Private Eyes. It features Charles DeChant on saxophone. On January 30, 1982, "I Can't Go for That" ended a ten-week run at the top by Olivia Newton-John with "Physical". Thanks to heavy airplay on urban-contemporary stations, "I Can't Go for That" also topped the U.S. R&B chart, a rare act for a non-African American act, as well as the Dance Club Play chart. Beyond being a number one hit in its own right, "I Can't Go for That" continues to bear influence. The song has been covered by a number of recording artists including Brian McKnight, The Nylons, Les Go (with Alfredo Alias), Donny Osmond, East End, Kansascali, and Orson. It was featured in British comedy series The Mighty Boosh (Series 3, Episode 3) where Bob Fossil danced to the song.

I love Hall & Oates, but I have to vote for Eileen in this case. If it were Out of Touch it would be a different story though.

Well Dexy wins another one 4-1. Even the H&O fans voted for em! ----------------------------------------------------------- Meat's on, and Michael already goes up 1-0... Michael Jackson - Dirty Diana"Dirty Diana" is a hit song by singer Michael Jackson. The song presented a harder rock sound than the previous "Beat It" had from the Thriller album. It was the fifth and last number-one hit from the album Bad on the Billboard Hot 100. Vs. Survivor - Eye Of The TigerEye of the Tiger is a song performed by the American rock group Survivor, and is taken from the album of the same name. It was released on January 1, 1982, and was written at the request of Sylvester Stallone for the film Rocky III. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks from July 24, 1982. It was preceded by "Don't You Want Me" by the Human League and followed by "Abracadabra" by the Steve Miller Band. It also topped the Mainstream Rock Tracks. "Eye of the Tiger" also reached number one in the UK, Irish and Australian charts. The song won a Grammy Award, an Academy Award nomination, and was voted "Best New Song" by the People's Choice Awards. During this same time period, the song was Number 1 for eight consecutive weeks in Venezuela, dropped down for a week, and then returned for an additional three weeks in the number one spot.
