As I said in the "I hated CLOVERFEILD" thread, I was mixed on this. The shaky cam bugged me only because it just made me sea sick. That was really the only thing that buggd me. You made the BLAIR WITCH comparison, but there are a few differences: BLAIR WITCH was supposed to be a "documentary" whereas CLOVERFEILD was "Our friend's going away party was cut short by this thing attacking NY, we're filming it in case we die so people know what happened" thing. More importantly we saw stuff happen and the script was more than arguing over the map. The camera thing wouldn't have made the endign as moving as it was.
From what I read about the sequel, it may be the same day from a different point of view (Knowing how LOST goes, I wouldn't be surprised by that. See the army people and Rob and Co are there)

There's more urgancy. Ah smurf it, CLOVERFEILD had actual moments of near scares

This movie will suck. Its got colours and sound. True movie-making died in 1929.

Considering De Palma is responsible for as much crap (e.g. Snake Eyes, Bonfire of the Vanities, MISSION TO MARS!!!!) as good (e.g. Scarface, Untouchables, Femme Fatale), it's really a 50/50 chance to do better than the guy. And these days, after Black Dahlia and Redacted, it's becoming easier and easier to make something better than a De Palma film. Heyyy...Mission to Mars was good. I thought so anyway. And considering that DePalma came onboard MARS only a few weeks before production, after Gore Verbinski jumped......I think he did alright with it. Not as bad as its reputation, but.....that's about it.
