How did Africa make it to the finals? You damn well know my answer to that question at this point... Also allow me now to convey my discontent that THRILLER is the SONG that made it this far out of Michael's... granted it's an iconic VIDEO... but I really never cared for this song and feel MJ could have been better representing by a number of his other classics from this time period... most of which were eliminated in the first couple rounds. It's Thrilla B, Thrilla.

The time has come. 256 songs came into this with aspirations of being WrestleCrap's number 1 1980's Pop Hit. We are now down to two contestants, one of which is no surprise, but the other that may be considered a longshot throughout the tourney. The voting is set at 7 for this championship round. Two songs enter, one song leaves. Let the voting COMMENCE! Toto - Africa"Africa" is a song by rock band Toto. Its story is told from the perspective of a man in Africa awaiting his female partner's inbound flight. The protagonist looks forward to their time together during the rainy season as it grants a reprieve from his normal responsibilities. The song's catchy chorus incorporates metaphor for his determination to guard his time with her: "It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you / There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do / I bless the rains down in Africa / Gonna take some time to do the things we never had". The song was included on their 1982 album Toto IV, and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in February 1983. The song was written by the band's keyboardist David Paich, who also sings both verses of the song, and drummer Jeff Porcaro. Bobby Kimball sings the chorus. Vs. Michael Jackson - ThrillerMichael and his date (Ola Ray) run out of gas in a dark, wooded area. They walk off into the forest, and Michael asks her if she would like to go steady. She accepts and he gives her a ring. He warns her, however, that he is "not like other guys". A full moon appears, and Michael begins convulsing - transforming into a horrifying werewolf. His date shrieks and runs away, but the werewolf catches up, knocking her down and begins lunging at her with its claws. The scene cuts away to a movie theater (the Palace Theatre in Hollywood) where Michael and his date - along with a repulsed audience - are actually watching this scene unfold in a movie called Thriller (by Vincent Price). Michael smiles but his date is frightened, and tells him she's leaving. Michael catches up to her, exclaiming "It's only a movie!" Some debate follows over whether or not she was scared by the scene; she denies it, but Michael disagrees. Michael and his date then walk down a foggy street, and he teases her with the opening verses of "Thriller". They pass a possessed graveyard, where corpses suddenly begin to rise from their graves, as Vincent Price recites a verse. Michael and his date then find themselves surrounded by the zombies, and suddenly, Michael becomes a zombie himself. Michael and the undead perform an elaborate song and dance number together, frightening his girlfriend to the point where she runs for cover. The girl is chased into an abandoned house, where the zombies and Michael slowly approach her. Right before they reach her, she wakes up and realizes that it was all a dream. As Michael asks "What's the problem?", he offers to take her home, but as the video ends Michael glances back at the camera, grins, and reveals his monster yellow eyes (accompanied by Vincent Price offering one last haunting laugh). After the credits, when they concurrently show the zombies dancing again, the disclaimer humorously states, "Any similarity to actual events or persons living, dead, (or undead) is purely coincidental." Landis' An American Werewolf in London likewise offered this disclaimer.

I think personally that while the video to Thriller is amazing, the song on it's own is only alright, and of the two I do prefer Africa. And seen as this is the best 80's 'song' tournament, I have to give my vote to....
Africa.

Afterall, in the 80's, hit music and music videos went hand in hand. 3-0 Africa in a first to 7.

Thriller
Africa's a great song, but Thriller is more definitive of the 80s for me.

I hate Africa, I think they whine through most of it.

Well that's it for Africa. Quite a run, though, for a song that seems to be getting a lot of hate around here

And Thriller wins! The King of Pop is the King of Wrestlecrap! I really thought Africa was going to pull it off after going up 4-0, but Thiller had a HUGE comeback and rattled off 7 straight votes. Ladies and gentlemen, your number one 80's Pop Song of Wrestlecrap..... Michael Jackson's ThrillerAlso, Insomniac, I don't hate Africa, it just REALLY shocked me that it got to the finals and did so well. Thank you for taking part everyone, I had a blast. It was a lot of work, but it was fun and worth it. If you have any suggestions about things I should do next time, or future tourneys/countdowns to hold, just shoot me a PM, I'd love to hear them.

We are the World, too.
Sweet Tournament, DP.
And the best song won...
Well, the best song out of the final 2, to me.
I probably would have thrown the tournament out the window as soon as Beat It or Smooth Criminal lost, if I were running it.
But that's just me.

I'm trying to think of some more songs we overlooked, as my brother (who's only 21) came up with some off the top of his head the other day. I know the "Nobodies gonna take my pride..." one that Insomniac mentioned. Can't remember the name of it though. I agree with all of HDX's list.
