Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and Carl Sagan - For reasons I'm not really allowed to discuss on these boards. But their work has in some way altered or touched my life. There are musicians and artists and historical figures I do also respect, but these three are the key non-family people to have helped me change my view on the world. This is Sagan at his best: youtube.com/watch?v=p86BPM1GV8M

That's indeed a great story...and he has a grill named after him. That's two shades of awesomeness. Didn't he name all of kids George? Or was that a wiki edit? No, his sons are all named George.

I respect my grandparents (and all the older relatives) for being honest and good people. I respect my parents for supporting me and my (at times questionable) choices. Sure we have out bad moments and everything, but I do owe a lot to them. I respect my uncle for not giving up his passions while growing older (but he still claims to be 32 I respect my aunt for going through cancer therapy at the age of 32 without losing a day at work. I respect our "maid" for her work ethic and mostly for making it in life starting from zero. I respect my cousins' dedication to their careers. They are annoying as hell, but credit when credit's due I respect some of my friends for sticking to their choices, as unpopular as those are. Oh, and I respect myself too...

MEL GIBSON - Is he batcrap crazy? Probably. Is he a mad drunk? Maybe. Does he have balls? Yes. I don't agree with his retro-Catholic religious stance regarding the Jesus of Nazareth myth, but when someone sinks $35+ million of their hard-earned cash to make a brutally-gruesome / subtlted religious picture....and then some of his own money for APOCALYPTO, which didn't have the benefit of the Church Buses. He's like Francis Ford Coppola, only not crapped away all of his talent...yet. I could never respect Mel Gibson. He's a crazy, racist, mornic, Britain-hating wannabe-Scottish asshole.

I mean, that sort of crazy-ass dedication has got to be respected.

My Father Here are the series of events that led to my father living in the U.S.: - Starts college, approached by the Baath Party to either join or squander as a peasant. - My father decides he's going to move to America as his uncle had years earlier. - Flies to Mexico with $200 in his pocket. Calls uncle, uncle has a contact but my dad is told to wait 1 week. - My dad stays in a hotel that is $30 a night and, with food, ends up having to stay on the street for 2 days. - Uncle calls to tell him that he has a contact who can get him in for $2000. His uncle loans him the money. - The man plans on bringing my father and other Arabs in the U.S. as a soccer team. - The group doesn't leave for another week but, thankfully, one of the other guys helps my dad out. - Finally in the U.S., my dad makes his way to Michigan. - As he works to pay off his debts, he learns that a couple guys have been caught by Immigration and deported. - A week later, all of the other men have been caught and they're coming after my father. - My dad pays an American woman who was a friend of a friend $5000 (Borrowed from his uncle) to marry him for citizenship. - The government find out the marriage was a sham, nullify it, and the woman runs off with the money. - My father is told he will be deported in 3 days. - With 2 days left, he scrambles to find any Arab family in the area with a daughter who needs to be married. - He finds my mother and gets married a day later, although the actual wedding would happen much later. - Until the early-to-mid 1980s, even after having 3 kids and being married, my father is continuously paying off lawyers to keep him in the country. - Finally, Ronald Reagan announces an immigration plan that would allow any illegal immigrant who had been in the country for more than 5 years and doesn't have a record the ability to get a quick and easy Visa, leading to my father becoming a full citizen.
He told me this whole story only once and that was a couple years ago when I was complaining about my job. I don't really complain much anymore.

About 3 of my friends, my grandparents and my parents.
This is all. I don't respect people I don't know and I especially don't respect celebrities.

I rarely respect a person fully, more often I respect aspects of their personality.
Of those I have full respect for:
My Dad My Brothers 1 & 2 Karla
And that's it.

My parents (for loving me unconditionally) My sister Laura (for tolerating my humour) Stephen Colbert (took some reall f***ing good balls to call out Dubya, I applaud that.) Vince McMahon (say what you want about the man, but he's done some great charity work) Lester B. Pearson (got to give props to one of Canada's greatest prime ministers) John Cena (The fact he endures all the jeering and insults directed at him, and goes out and does his job, that takes some real courage)

My Mom: She raised me by herself during my pre-teen and early teen years which is probably the hardest years of raising a kid and I think I turned out pretty decent.
My Grandma: Raised 3 kids by herself and worked numerous jobs at once to support all 3.

Also, I'll say this about Vince: He has given some people who betrayed him in the past and old friends jobs when he REALLY didn't have to.
Hacksaw, Tatanka(At least for a while), Mae Young, and Iron Shiek don't really draw, but he's supported them out of a sense of loyalty. Not a bad use for money, one bit.
I also respect anyone who takes the dangers of being an athlete. Steroids, while I don't approve of them, don't really diminish my respect for them because it's honestly not really my business. I am not an athlete, a body builder, a personal trainer, a scientist, or anyone who has an educated perspective on medicinal techniques to improve physique. I try not to talk about things I know virtually nothing about.
