I miss comics actually going on with depth then the new ones which take 30 issues just for one story arc!
hell look at one issue of the watchmen and compare that to your normal every day comic book now and you'll see what I mean by lack of depth.

I miss the letters page in the back. It sorta helps you to know that there are other people in the world reading the same thing you are, and discussing/debating the merits of the storyline as it's taking place! Plus, it's amazing to think that some of comics' greatest writers/artists/etc. were first published on that last page!
I also miss the covers that had something to do with the story. There's plenty of comics with just a random image of the main character on the cover, but I'd much rather see something that gives me a tiny taste of what's inside the book, peak my interest a little.
I also miss having enough disposable income to go out and BUY some friggin' comics.

Licensed comics. Heck, marvel's GI Joe comic was at times better than some of the superhero stuff marvel published!

I miss being able to read Spider-man and not having him get ruined every three months. I haven't bought a Spidey story since the clone saga. I was considering getting back in and then... well... I don't think I need to say anything else about it
I also miss being able to buy a comic and not needing to know what every other super-hero in the world is doing. Marvel's particularly bad for this, too (ESPECIALLY anything that Bendis writes. I think he's a good writer, but his stuff is way too "referency" for my liking). DC's not much better with Countdown, but at least it isn't affecting the major heroes I care about like Supes and JSA and Green Lantern much.
the days when nobody was genre savvy. it's like Joss Wheddon made out like a bandit with Buffy and everyone decided to copy him.

What days would those be? I don't recall a time when people weren't genre savvy (like, all the people that came out with "dark" comics in the wake of Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns, or even Marvel's decision to launch new superhero books in the early 60s, thanks in part to DC's successful relaunches of characters like the Flash in the late 50s).
Not trying to sound dick-ish, just wondering.

I miss DC not having to bend over for Siegel's heirs.

I miss the days when comics were fun action packed action adventure stories, with a tiny little bit of drama thrown in, instead of every story trying to copy Frank Millar's (in my opinion, very poorly written/drawn) THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS FOR REVENGE AGAIN TO STRIKE BACK IN THE CLONE WARS PHANTOM MENACE....BATMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Everyone used to absolutely rave about that comic because it was so grim and gritty...I read it...and had to change glasses prescriptions because the artwork was so horrible, that not even surgery can fix my eyes now.
I do miss the days when the cover was some tiny hint about what's going on in the comic. Yeah, you can laugh and poke fun at all the "Superman dickery" comics, but when you picked them up and read them...you always learned that the cover was just misleading you and Superman/Batman/Spiderman/whoever didn't REALLY do the bad stuff some of the comic covers suggested.
I miss Tom Defalco...I just liked him.
I miss the days when you could tell a really cool story in just one issue.
I miss the days when Batman was a super cool, fun detective character who fought crime with his best friend and partner, Robin, the boy wonder...before all Batman stories HAD TO somehow involve aspects of the afore mentioned FRANKLIN MILLAR(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) crap Dark Knight story.
I miss the days when Spiderman could eventually face the issue's big bad guy...take maybe a hit here and there...but eventually whoop said villain's butt...without having his costume shredded to tiny strips, every bone and muscle in his body torn and broken, and his mask shattered beyond repair.
I miss Steve Rogers as Captain America.
I miss the days when Henry Pym wasn't the butt end of every "spousal abuse!" joke ever written by man.
I miss Odin, father of Thor.
I miss the Silver Surfer having an on-going comic.

3 to 5 issue arcs. I'm sick of story arcs lasting a year (or longer). Once in a while for a special occasion it's cool, but it feels like the Batman title has been having year long arcs since No Man's Land in 1999/2000.

Using WATCHMEN as the lynch pin is setting the bar high, because around the same time DC put that book out, Marvel had a storyline that pretty much did what you are stating comics do today. An issue of X-men that came out around 85 ended with Havock and Polaris driving around, they get cut off and swerve off the road. They find a Brood mothership and realize they must warn the X-Men. Next issue sees Havok rejoin the team, but no mention of the Brood ship. In fact, it's an afterthought until a year later. Do want to bring up that the speech ballons on the cover are coming back (BOOSTER GOLD uses them often). Big thing I miss is the "notes from the editor" or whatever you call the box at the bottom of the pannel that says "*- they are refering to something that happened in Book X #Y" That would help sales because what if I was a new reader? Another thing I didn't realize how much I missed until I read a recent issue of Avengers that saw Doom and IronMan fighting through time is the "story continues after next two pages" indicating that there were two pages of ads. Yeah that's pointless, but that dumb thing made me nostalgic

When I was "collecting" (i dont know why but the term always annoyed me) marvel comics in 2000 - 01 I loved the little guide to the marvel universe where there was an insert that gave character bios on the characters featured in that issue as well as a synopsis of the events pertaining to that issue.

I miss stories that actually mean something. I hate how one year theyll do a huge crossover with a huge "this will change everything youve ever known" tagline, then they follow it up the next year with another huge crossover involving every title, that puts it all back to how it was.
I miss the dead staying dead. I miss the time before cities were destroyed on a weekly basis

It's been said, but I miss there not being a mega-universal-trans-parallel-dimensional CRISIS going on ever six months, and just letting each respective character stand on their own merits once in a while.

If you hate a character...really really really hate a character...just don't writer about him/her. If you hate Mary Jane so badly...have her deal with some family business in Alaska or something instead of KILLING HER OFF just because you don't like her. Anymore, killing off a character always leads to someone else brining the dead character back.

This is not something I miss, more like something I wish would stop happening: Everytime a new and exciting writer bursts onto the scene with a style of storytelling thats unique and groundbreaking, EVERY SINGLE OTHER WRITER MUST START COPYING IT. And quite crappily too.
There's only one Frank Miller, one JMS, one Bendis, etc. The reason the big writers become so big is because they are UNIQUE.
