I'll see if I can sort of explain it (if I'm wrong, I'm sure I'll be corrected so all is good). If this seems harsh, I apologize, but it's nothing personal.
Basically, 9 times out of 10, these types of threads are people seeking attention. Not saying these people don't have legit problems, but if someone was really gonna be gone for a while, then perhaps that person should PM the people they care about and let them know.
I had to be offline for almost a month due to moving. Outside of posting about it to the mods in the super secret funhouse section, I didn't announce it here. But I let some of the posters here know about it in PM in case someone asked about me (which you didn't..bastards).
I'm only speculating here, but in RRA's case, he made this dramatic goodbye thread (and I have no doubts he has issues he's dealing with) and within like 5 or 6 hours was back. From someone just reading the board, it comes off as attention seeking. Again, not saying it was, but that's the impression one could get.
There are other cases, but I'm too lazy to get into it. I guess what I'm saying is if you really have to leave, maybe it's best to let your friends know instead of the whole board.
I hope I didn't come off as dickish there, just my two cents.

Nah you dont sound dickish Kash and I see your point too. I don't know what exactly RRA is/was doing with his thread but a lot of times people really do plan on leaving...for more than 10 minutes....
Anyway, gotcha.

I concur, if you must say 'goodbye' even if and especially when it's for a short period of time, like the day or so some have posted about in the past, PM those ya think would wanna know, beyond that, just my opinion, it seems really melancholy and silly. For sure let those you consider friends know what's up, but after that, if someone asks "hey where's so and so?" those friends can let interested parties know what's up. Also, one post in a goodbye thread, should be enough.. but I've seen nigh ALL of them in the past have responses from the original poster within a lil of posting the goodbye.. again, it just comes across as overly dramatic. Not directed toward anyone, I dislike ALL those threads equally.

What they said. I don't mind a quick note thread along the lines of "hey, I'm heading off to college, don't have a computer there, don't know when I'll be back" or "I'm moving to Latveria, I'll be back online in three months"...that sort of thing I don't mind. Otherwise, I'm of the mind that if you're going to leave, just do it.

But having done this for so long, trends start to emerge. 9 times out of 10, the person doing the grandstanding departure is back within weeks, if not days. Some can't even make it out of the thread without coming back. I'm not a fan of fabricated drama.

Am the only one that was bothered by the dark jokes in the recent Anne Frank thread?
I mean I love black comedy, but stuff like that makes me sick.

I just wanted to highlight this again, the one remark in there I think needs to be looked at.

So, some guy has nothing better to do than whinge about my sig. Anything we can do about it or shall I just start the "4th Official Whinge about Maxx's Sig" thread?

At times I find threads missing from my page of bookmarks, and then I have to retrive them. Is this common?

At times I find threads missing from my page of bookmarks, and then I have to retrive them. Is this common? When a forum 'breaks', we have to 'fix' them. That action causes a restructing of the index and that can break the bookmarks. However, if you add the thread to your 'favorites' in your browser that link should stay active and well. It's just the internal index that's affected I think.

Because there's a pinned thread about the Hall of Fame. It actually states in the opening post that the thread should be used for who you think should be in the Hall of Fame (or those you don't).

I want you guys to be completely honest... If all the mods had a battle royale to the death, who would come out the victor? Also, can I get something witty as a special title? Also, when is ROH gonna get it's own board?

1) I am unsure as to the question. Is the point to die or to be the one left alive? 2) No. 3) It's not.
