Overwhelmingly tends to suck.
Then again I'm not a Top 40 kinda kid at all. Went out with a couple of friends from work tonight and I liked maybe...4 songs out of everything they played. It's pretty depressing...I dunno if I'm just picky or what. It was just astoundingly...wow.
I really need to move to a bigger city that has alternative clubs.

My complaint mostly for music in bars is that it is too loud. I go to pubs to drink socially but the music is usually up way too loud to hold a conversation.
If I want loud music I would of gone to a live venue, concert or night club.

Yeah, there's that too. It tends to be quite loud, making conversations overwhelmingly difficult unless you're screaming at the top of my lungs.
Crappy music + LOUD = Boooo.

At the bar I used to work at the owner would play the same CD on repeat over and over again, to encourage people to play the jukebox. Sometimes the default CD would not be changed for weeks at a time, it was horrible.

There was a jukebox at one of the bars we used to frequent, so we remained in control. I liked the quiet, though, and chatting with the wicked hot bartender. One night, though, they had a DJ who was WAY too loud, and also sucked. That was also one of the last nights I ever went there.
The other one usually had live bands or karaoke, so, if the music sucked, at least it was entertaining. Plus, both of them had patios, which is where we spent most of our time, anyway.

Yeah, there's not many good bars around here. This is the best one near here, and it's not even in my town...it's almost an hour away. And yeah, they have a DJ, and he absolutely sucks.
Not only does he play terrible music, he also has no idea how to order music. It's just sad.
And he sounds like the DJ from the Strip Joint in South Park.

If its a bar it shouldn't have music it's as simple as that. When I go to a bar I want to chat with my mates or watch football. Nothing else.

I like having music but it needs to be background noise not so loud that people can't talk to each other.

I went to a bar once where a band was playing, there was a jukebox near by that was drowning their sound out. Maybe it was a good thing when I look back on it lol.

Loud and crappy music.
The absolute worst part is when there's the "on demand" machine, and thanks to some stupid kids you'll hear thw same two (horrible) songs over and over again, til they go home or run out of change.

I dont think i have ever been to a bar that I really enjoyed the music, sure there are a couple of songs i enjoy listening to, but overall LOUD crappy music. I go drinking in Manhattan of all places, I cannot imagine how the atmosphere would be in a smaller city.

Most people agree they don't like loud music in bars so why the hell do the owners do it? Crappy, loud music has stopped me going to a number of places because I just want to talk to people.

I agree. When I go to town drinking I'll hear maybe 3 songs through the night that I like. Everywhere just plays the same stuff as well, the songs that come on that I like are: The Ghostbusters theme, It's Like That by Run DMC and Jump by House of Pain. There's maybe another good one now and then but usually it's dance and r'n'b type top hits type stuff.

I found a nice pub in my town with a decent (not great) jukebox. Lots of classic rock to choose from (unfortunately lots of current country and pop also) but the piece de resistance of the jukebox was a Sinatra best of disc. Jukebox was at a perfect volume that you could hear the music but also talk without having to raise your voice. My best friend and I went for a few beers and dinner, put 2 bucks in the jukebox after we ordered and our music lasted our entire stay. Good stuff.
We kept to some standards (Stevie Ray Vaughan, George Thorogood, Rush) some personal favorites (Archie Bell & The Drells, Joe Cocker) and Sinatra w/ Count Basie.
All in all, better than having to listen to the Sirius station they put on or having to listen to AC/DC and Nickleback all night.

I was at Old Chicago one night, and the tracklist on that On Demand thing was incredible, from good Cake songs, to early 90's alt rock.
...then the NEXT time I went was all the new garbage...
Stupid MMT shop for always having shop parties at OC. I avoid it like the plague. If I were at Nellis, or a similar base, then I'd be at Buffalo Wild Wings for all the get togethers...

If I end up moving to San Antonio for a bit I'm going to see if I can't get a gig playing guitar (well, when I get a little better at it) at a bar I frequent there. Little place with a good atmosphere, never had much complaint with the music. I mostly tune it out though.
Mostly I'm just trying to lure you closer to me.

One time me and my friend played "Never Gonna Give You Up" on the bar's jukebox, and laughed like 6 year olds because we Rick Rolled the bar. It was beautiful.
