I honestly never realized midget was an offensive term. It's only recently become offensive in the "I'M OFFENDED BY THIS WORD" wave of the 2000's. I like to be called "vertically superior".

But maybe through out time it may become a word like Midget or Skwa and people will stop using it so freely. People still use the word midget all the time... And what the hell exactly IS a skwa, anyway? Racial slur for Native American women. Biggest boom in usage was during the Indian Wars of the 1800s in America. Was used for a while in the 1900s as well.

And off-topic a bit, but since WHEN has "killing" something become a GOOD thing? Just last year, I know when somebody would sing a song horribly, they'd say "you totally killed it". Now, when I hear somebody say "they killed that song!" apparently it's a good thing. Probably just me, but I'd be more concerned about people using "kill" in a positive manner.

I don't even like using the word tall to describe people, it's hurtful and wrong... PROTIP: Also, since we're discussing words that may be misconstrued as bad, people need to learn how to pronounce Arab. If you say it as "ay-rab" then it's technically considered a slur.

All the times I've heard skwa, it was used as a term of affection. Theres plenty of other words Natives find offensive tho.

That is shit - Bad That is the shit - Good

Now THAT'S being defensive. As far as the use of the word to ask others to stop, sometimes you have to (figuratively, not literally mind you) waffle people over the head with something to get them to pay attention to what you are saying. By him saying what he felt "needed to be say-ud"(sorry, couldn't resist ) he put some focus on the use of a potentially offensive word and has caused some to think before they post I would imagine. Of course, most won't change how they talk (or post for our purposes here) and that's fine. He said if one person would think first, then he was fine with that. I would imagine 3 pages of discussion here would be considered a success.

Can we lay off the retard talk? I'm getting tired of every thread I go into seeing this word thrown around like it means nothing. People are using it to describe something that is stupid or meaningless. why can'y you just use the word stupid or meaningless? Serious the word retard actually does hurt. I'm only using this as an example but I'm sure If I went around saying thing like. "that guy is a RACIST COMMENT BY POST" or "look at that spick." I would be reprimanded and possibly banned. So please can people try to lay off? Thought that was interesting.

Speaking of words that people find offensive.. it's still kinda baffling to me that colleges and some other teams that use Indians or a tribe name as a mascot is considered offensive and is often pressured to change, yet the pro team actually calls themselves the Redskins..
Just odd.
