I love this game, the wii + nunchuck is the best, smoothest control style, but i like the wii wheel

I do like the game, but it is by far the least balanced MK game ever. I don't know if it is because of the 12 racers instead of 8 or what. But I get hit with 5+ blue shells a game if I am leading. I can lap a dude, and have him beat me because I got in a conga line of "shoot AFN over and over, make him fall off ledges, and be unable to play for over a minute". It is really kind of annoying. While it is fun, it is the least balanced and least fun MK game I have played. Exactly. Like a review at kotaku said this game punishes you for being number one. To have a race almost locked up like say for instance, on your third lap and near the finish line to get knocked out by a red shell is just really cheap.

Yeah, I got Jewed in Coin Battle every time I had tons of coins. It was like, BOOM Blue Shell, BAM Red Shell....etc. Same in races a few times. Ugh.

I just put in a good 2 hours with it and really don't like it at all. It's the same exact Mario Kart, but dumbed down and with motorcycles. It seems like any of the skill or ability you needed with the old games is gone and replaced with annoying features that add nothing (please shut the characters up or at least give us an option to), AI that's pointless to try and beat because the enemies going to end up with the equivalent of a nuclear stronghold of goodies to nail you right before you cross the finish line (might as well hang around 8th and then go on a tear on the last lap, no?) and an emphasis on luck and rehashing the same formula.
I really have a soft spot in my heart for Nintendo, as I was fighting for their cause back in the 16 bit era against the Sega fanbase, but I haven't been able to enjoy many games on the Wii because they don't challenge me, at least in the way a normal game should. It's like I picked up the Fischer Price Learn To Game system and have to color in the lines or some other boring and endless loop-of-a-game that goes no where. I'm glad their successful with the Wii, but I'm starting to realize I use it more to play my Cube games and, even when I'm not, I'm using my Cube controller. It really makes me wonder why I bought a Wii.

I agree that the AI is bad. But the game is really good if you have other people to play with. I have enjoyed it multiplayer.

After several days of playing, I discovered that if you are in first place, the game HATES you. God Almighty, does it hate you.

It's awesome that this game tracks your win/loss record and percentage of time in 1st place.

I'm used to getting obliterated in first, but then I just man up and win the race anyway.
Getting throttled while winning isn't new in this series, just a bit more pronounced.

I powered up Mario Kart Wii today, and went online. I am impressed with the online. It is really fun, the terrible AI obviously isn't a problem, and the ranking system works well. It has a good amount of options, tournaments, down loadable ghosts. The only thing thats missing is the obvious voice chat. But the game is hundreds of times better when doing online multiplayer.
If anyone on these here boards wants to play, I will add your friend code.

Is anyone else trying the tournaments? I haven't done the newest one yet (Race throw the gates at Bowser's Castle I think it is) but, did the first one and like it.
Also, I race under my name Ric.
EDIT: The new tournament is in GBA Battle Course 3

This may sound a stupid question but how do you find your Mario Kart Code?? Once you've connected online it will be under your name in the file select screen. There ought to be a 12 digit number. It's assigned once you connect to the Nintendo WFC, so if you havent done that yet, you don't have one. Also, if you have the Mario Kart channel, it shows up on there too.
