Does anyone else hate how they act like Mysterio's mask is such a big deal?
Remember a few years ago on Tough Enough, when the contestants were "honored" by having Mysterio remove his mask and show them his face (the camera was behind him so viewers couldn't see).
Don't they realize we can just go watch any WCW tape from Superbrawl 1999 till the end of the company to see Rey without his mask?

Yeah, but not everyone watched WCW at that time, especially with WWE killing them in the ratings when Mysterio lost his mask. Plus, I guess in lucha libre, it's a sign of respect, maybe, haha. I don't know.
I was looking through Jericho's book, and one of the pictures has a bunch of wrestlers including Mysterio unmasked, but Jericho says it's some short guy named Oscar.

If you watch his first DVD they released, it shows him in his house, showing you around, and all of his normal, family type pictures have STICKERS over his face.

See the actual secret reason for the mask is that, much like Menudo before him, every time a "Rey" hits puberty, he is replaced with another 8 year old mexican kid. The one WWE uses now is the 5th one. It's sad, cause the fourth one had those stupid ass tattoos, so now all the replacement children have to get them too.

See, in one way I can totally understand WWE wanting to honor the tradition of the mask in kayfabe. So in matches where people are desperately trying to unmask him, playing it up makes sense.
However, on Tough Enough, I was kindof annoyed as that show was supposed to live outside of kayfabe. Plus, that episode happened at a point in time where WCW hadn't been shut down that long, and if these people have watched wrestling for years (as pretty much all of them professed to have done), their memories should've been more fresh to the unmasked Rey.
Although, at the same time.. I do remember just a quick cutaway then immediately following up with Al Snow telling them what an honor that was with just a touch of annoyance in his voice. Possibly due to some of the people actually realizing, "Yep, he still looks like that." And Al wanting to cover that up quickly.

Just a bit of a nitpick. Don't believe for one second that WWE cares about "honoring the tradition of the mask in kayfabe". Rey is wearing the mask because it sells to kids. Period. It's a marketing tool, and nothing more. If Vince cared about the "tradition of the mask", then Juventud would have been wearing his masks during his WWE run too. But he didn't because Juve's masks don't sell. Rey's do. I'm not saying that this is a bad thing, mind you. It's a good business decision, and I'd do the exact same thing in Vince's shoes. But don't confuse "money-making opportunity" with "honoring the tradition of the mask".
