So we have a few Sting threads already, but I had another topic I wanted to discuss a little more specifically... what's so great about never working for Vince?
Does he think he wouldn't be used right? On what basis? Guys like Foley, Jericho, Mysterio and Flair all came from WCW, lower on the card than Sting was in most cases and became bigger stars in WWE and were 'used right'. Even the worst examples you could give of Booker, Steiner or Goldberg were still all used as big name stars and given a good push.
Surely if he's as good as everyone thinks, he should have faith in himself getting over through his ringwork?
If it's an ethical thing that kept him out of WWE, then for what reason? WWE today is far tamer than WCW during the Russo era.
And if it's just to say he never worked for Vince then that's the stupidest reason possible. Where's the glory in saying you were never in the number 1 company? That's like saying you spent your football career always aiming to play for the team that lost the Superbowl. From what I've heard he has no personal problem with Vince, and Vince has never shown animosity towards Sting.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the guy. He's not a spectacular wrestler, he doesn't have amazing charisma. At best I'd say he's a good worker, who benefited from being given a look that always got him over with the crowd. That always annoyed me since his 'look' was always stolen from other people. From Warrior to The Crow, none of his appearance was his own creativity or ingenuity.
Anyway, what sort of sensible reason is there for him to not work for McMahon?
The only reason I can think of is that he wants to be seen as a great, main event level wrestler, in the league of Flair and Hogan, but knows that in WWE he wouldn't be that. He'd get a short run on top most likely, but it wouldn't be sustained, and it would bring down his overall standing in the minds of many people. From his own perspective, I can understand it, but it's another reason why I really don't buy the Sting hype. Remember WCW was famous for never letting many new people into their main event scene, so it was easy for Sting to always remain a top-tier star.
So, please... discuss your thoughts on the matter!

It's how DDP was treated that has him probably iffy.
But I refuse to ever buy that Goldberg had a failed push and run.

I believe Sting has a, let's call it moral objection to WWE. I am sure I heard he can't reconcile his Christian beliefs with being in the WWE. Unlike Shawn or DiBiase or probably 30 other guy who are Christian wrestlers and in WWE.

I think how the Invasion angle went also played on his mind. In an interview he stated the example of the Rock-Booker T face-off, where Rock doesn't even know who Booker was as one of the reasons why he's not too keen on joining WWE.

It's a combination of things, really. For one, he just doesn't want to work a full time schedule. For two, I'm sure he feels as though even if he got a part time gig, he would be used improperly. I don't know that religion plays a huge factor, but I'm sure it's a concious thought that goes through his mind when asked about it.
As for what's so great about not working for Vince? I guess that depends on what your definition of 'great' is. I personally think it's great that he never sold out, and is probably the most recognizable pro wrestler in the recent-modern wrestling era that Vince can take absolutely zero credit for.
Which, IMO, makes him a thousand times better for it. He's living proof that Vince McMahon isn't the wrestling genius he and his cronies would probably like you to beleive. Vince McMahon doesn't create "superstars". More often than not, they create themselves.
Fair play to Sting.

Vince McMahon doesn't create "superstars". More often than not, they create themselves. Fair play to Sting. See, I don't buy that Sting created himself as a superstar. He was created as much by other bookers as anyone in WWE is created. As I said originally, not even Sting's look is original, so he can't say he created himself. James Barr deserves a great deal of credit and a big slab of money from Mr Borden. Sure Vince can't take "credit" for Sting, but then any booker or promoter deserves credit for the stars they make. Someone else other than Sting can still take as much credit for Sting. But likewise, as much as Sting and his fans may want to call him a great superstar, he can't claim to have been a part of the largest wrestling company in the USA today, or WrestleMania or many other prestigious things that come from being in WWE. And I fail to see why working for WWE equals selling out. How? They're the biggest wrestling company and at the end of the day, when comparing the two companies low points, has done no worse than WCW did as well. But, you raise a very valid point that I hadn't considered at this point. The schedule. He's by no means desperate for the money, and I'm sure that's a big part of it too. And at no point earlier in his career did he need to leave WCW either, so those are probably big reasons.

I just listened to that video... and I gotta say that example of Booker T makes no sense to me.
Booker was buried by WWE? Oh totally! He was only world champion, and a regular main event star on Raw and SmackDown for how many years?
As for the "who are you?" line... well that was the Rock. That was his schtick. Hell, he did that to almost everyone. He did it to Jericho when he debuted, and didn't he fail miserably? He'd say that to guys who had been on WWE programing for ages. He just played the role of an egomaniac who thought he was better than everyone else.
And in a way the InVasion was like two worlds colliding. These two shows had been airing at the same time as each other for years, many fans who didn't watch WCW were probably also asking "who are you?"
As much as people like Sting want to believe Vince doesn't push people right, there's so many examples of former WCW guys making it bigger in WWE than they did in WCW that the theory completely falls flat. Jericho, Mysterio, Benoit, Guerrero, Big Show, Foley.... and all he can give me is the fact the Rock asked Booker T who he was in his first appearance... who might I add then went on to become a huge star anyway despite this alleged "burial".

For two, I'm sure he feels as though even if he got a part time gig, he would be used improperly. Improperly like: not being given a World Title? Quite honestly, I would not book Sting in any different way than as a Special Attraction, in a feud with another Legend, but far far away from any significant World Title. Shawn and DiBiase, just to name two famous WWE Born Again residents don't seem to have many problems with working in WWE. Even though the Chairman is supposed to be Satan or something equally evil. He's recognizable because he's a cheap Crow rip-off... He didn't "sell out" because probably the right offer never came. WWF/E already had and have enough starpower and a WCW sidekick wasn't really needed... So the surfer version of the Ultimate Warrior and WCW's version of Eric Draven is an unmatched piece of geniality? Did Mr. Borden come up with both ideas? And even if he did, the only one who can get credit for "making" Sting is Ric Flair. Vince may not be the genius we've been told, but you can honestly deny when he had the right "partner" to work with, he never dropped the ball (see Hogan and Austin)

By the time WCW folded Sting was ready to hang up his boots anyways. Sure he did a few tours with WWA or what ever it was called. But Sting didn't need WWE, he didn't want to work 300+ days a year, he wanted to sit on his Time Warner paycheck, I'm sure his religion views played a part in it, cause WWE was a lot worse in 2001 then it is now, HBK didn't even make his born again come back yet. It was 5 years before he even agreed to join TNA, which put out a lot more money, for a lot less dates.

Sting has said, that he has never had issue with the WWE storyline wise. He was very close with signing with them in I believe 2003 for a WrestleMania storyline with the Undertaker.
I remember him saying the money was good enough, but that is all they had for him.
On angle with the Undertaker and then take it where it will from that.
He also is not a fan of the full time schedule.
He needs to be the person to have Ric Flair retire.
