Could you imagine HBK in his like 70s being still called that? They'd just call him "Hip Break Kid"

If I was a wrestler, I would call people by their worst gimmicks backstage and in shoot interviews. Just to mess with them

Depends if there's an outsider present. If there is, one of them will say "kayfabe" and then they go into character. So I've read, anyway. Why can't they talk out of character in front of Hall or Nash? Okay, this was freakin' funny. You nearly owed me a new keyboard, dude.

To answer part of the OP's question, in his shoot interview, Hall refered to Sean Waltman/Xpac/Syxx/123 Kid as "Kid" repeatedly.

Could you imagine HBK in his like 70s being still called that? Shawn? I really don't suppose the other wrestlers in the locker room address him as "Hey The Heartbreak Kid..." Calling him Shawn is still in Kayfabe anyway, HBK's real name is Mike afterall!

It would seem to be good practice to get used to calling the guys by their kayfabe names anyway so you're used to it and it comes naturally.
Wouldn't want to be cutting an in ring promo and call someone their real name by accident. Those kind of slipups would be gimmick infringement on JR anyway.

HBK,Trips.Nash, and Hall all still call Sean Waltman "Kid"
