Here are the pics I took of John at that event. Sorry for the quality, but for a dimmly lit house show, not bad. The date was Oct 11 1992 for anyone interested, well according to what I wrote on the back of the picture. I was 9 at the time, maybe I made a mistake.

I haven't been this sad since Eddie died. I mean, wow, I barely knew the guy. He answered a few of my questions on the thread and it feels like he's somehow a distant friend of mine. When I first saw the message of his death it hit me like a ton of bricks. I have already posted on this thread, but I'm just so sad that he's gone.

I, like many others, was hoping for a miraculous recovery. I respect Quake for his positive attitude and he never stopped fighting from the day he was diagnosed with cancer. Rest in Peace John .

It seems like just yesterday, that I remember seeing him at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds. I grew up in Surrey. John was often in this area. To stories of my parents sharing livations with him. To seeing him destroy Hogan for the first time. I will miss him and pray for his family and loved ones. You are gone too soon, but you are in a better place now. I will never forget you. Wow....... words can't express what I'm feeling and what I'm sure everyone else is feeling. Quake always had time to interact with the fans via this forum and that really meant a lot to me. He even took time to answer a few of my questions and I still have a couple PM's saved from him. I usually won't read each and every post in a long forum thread, but I read every single one of them in this thread, with a tear running down my cheek.
He wasn't a shark, he wasn't a natural disaster, he wasn't an oddity, he was John Tenta and he was one hell of a man.
Thanks for all the memories Quake.
I hope this section of the forums stays up as a tribute to the man and as a place for fans and crappers to reflect and remember.

I am deeply saddened by this news. John Tenta was a great man, since the first day I met him he showed my partner and I respect, kindness, and a generosity that is so rare in this business. John was a class act and an amazing performer. And for such a huge giant of a man, he had a heart to match. Funny thing is, I started reading the wrestlecrap book last night, John forwarded the book, and I was thinking of him just last night and was hoping he was doing fine....life is strange like that sometimes. Thanks for all the great memories Mr. Tenta, you will always be respected and never forgotten.
One great memory of "Earthquake" John Tenta was when he and Prince Iaukea were cutting a promo on The Market Crashers. Quake was questioning Iaukea's loyalty to him, when my partner and I enter the scene. Iaukea was acting so over the top and had this silly look on his face. It was so hilarious that we all started laughing out loud in the middle of the promo. John couldn't stop laughing, which kept me laughing, and Shawn and Iaukea couldn't stop laughing either. By the end of the promo there was tears coming down all of our faces and we struggled to get to the point and outta there. The crowd popped because It was just so friggin funny. Then Quake straightened up, looked at Shawn and I and started screaming at the top of his lungs. I almost shit my pants. His immediate change in pace just caught me off guard and startled me. We got to the back and basically collapsed in the room like 4 kids laughing our assess off. It was just such a priceless moment, I still have it on tape. I'll miss you John.

I'm at work all day, go onto a news site, and this is the first thing I see. I was never a heavy reader in this section, but he always seemed like a nice guy. My condolences go out to his family and friends.

I am sorry to hear about this. I already miss his heel days as Earthquake. Now I will miss his contributions to this web site. Seems like the good do die young. Best wishes to his family!

Rest in Peace, John. You always entertained me, and everyone else, on this board. It's rare to find someone in the wrestling business who talks to fans as equals and who doesn't try to shill out his products every other sentence. I know that he cared about his fans and that he was proud to be who he was. I'm new to these forums, so I haven't read all his posts but I'll make an effort to read what John said and, hopefully, I'll laugh and cry and take comfort that his suffering is over and that he's in a better place.
I wish nothing but the best to his family and friends during this time and hope that they smile when they learn (though I'm sure they know), when its truely driven home, how much this man was loved.

Well, just checked the news sites... In an age where there are so many people who abuse their privlages that are gifted to them, it's sad to see a man who didn't, have to leave us. I feel no sorrow for John himself, as he is well taken care of, but a deep sorrow to those he leaves behind. Having to watch various family members at the moment fight cancer (badly, I'm afraid), I know all too well what it is like. There's nothing that prepares you for it, nothing that calms the sadness. If 10% of what has been said about Mr. Tenta is true, none of us here could do better than to live our lives like him, regardless of our vocation or passions. He was a man who made a fantastic career out of entertaining people, and even at a time where he was fighting an overwhelming illness, he came onto this board, and answered questions from the same people that gave him that luxury. Very few are able to give back what they are given. May his model of morality guide us all in life.

To say that John Tenta will be missed is an understatement. Not just as a pro wrestling entertainer, and one of the early 90's big heel draws, but more importantly as a friend to many, an inspriation to more, a father, and a loving husband.
While one should never detract from his completely selfless accomplishments in Pro Wrestling, it is his contributions toward humanity that will be missed the most. He never had to come here and chat with us. He wanted to be here despite his illness; possibly to help inspire others in tough times, and more often, I think, just to share a laugh or a good story with us.
That's class.
Take care, John. And to those whose lives he touched, please accept my sincerest and deepest sympathy.

Where to start?
I grew up watching wrestling with Hulk Hogan at the forefront of my looooong list of childhood favorites. However, his antithesis, for a while at least, was Earthquake, this huge, evil bastard who crushed my hero, putting him out of action and leaving me devastated. I loathed Earthquake as a child. Now, I realize Mr. John Tenta was just doing his job as an entertainer and an athlete: Making me hate him.
I have fond memories of him, ranging from his feud with Big Bubba (Yeah, I remember, and I cheered the Shark on like a mofo, half head of hair or not!), to his gig under the mask, and more recently, getting to understand the man behind the mass. A man with a sense of humor, unafraid of putting himself up as a comical spectacle. Funny guy, behind the gimmick.
We wrestling fans, along with the guys who get the job done behind the curtain and in the ring, have often said "Damn, he was way too young to go." Usually, it pertains to drug and booze abuse, both of which are crap to watch a man go through, but at the end of the day, it's a personal choice.
Nobody chooses to have cancer.
And with that, I salute you, Quake. You brought us an assload of great memories (Quakeburgers, anyone? Nummies) and you'll live forever on a boxful of VHSs, in the minds of millions, and in the hallowed halls of wrestlings' past, present, and future.
Thanks for the memories and we'll see you on the other side.
