I remember when John added "Go Tigers" to his name, and I gave him a hard time about him misspelling "Go" (here in Louisiana it's always "Geaux", a play on words of many french last names ending in -eaux, e.g. Thibadeaux, Comeaux). He changed it to Geaux after that. Also told some good LSU stories in another thread. Wish we could honor his family at halftime at one of the football games this year. John Tenta--a true LSU Tiger and a hell of a man.

LSU should change their nickname to Earthquakes. That would be awesome!

LSU should change their nickname to Earthquakes. That would be awesome! well they did manage to make the seismograph to register an earthquake quite a few years back against Auburn. (1988 I believe)

As a Baton Rouge native and even before John was here on the forums, I always thought it was pretty cool that he had went to LSU. Only the good die young.

Considering Quake had nothing to do with the team then why should they rename a stadium after someone who was a fan? I thought he wrestled at LSU and then was on the football team after they got rid of Wrestling at LSU. John didn't make his sports impact at LSU in Football. His impact was in Wrestling. They lost wrestling when they were forced to give it up due to title 9. As much as we loved John and miss him, to rename anything after him football related would probably never happen at a school with such a rich history as LSU. If they ever brought back wrestling, I could see them possibly naming something after him. John was a modest fella anyway. I take it as he would of been honored but very modest about any type of honor such as naming something after him.

I know he played for them in the past, but was not exactly famous for it. What I meant to say that other than being a former player, at the time of his death John was a fan of the team. Yes, they could honour him by having a plaque or something on display there, but to rename a stadium after him is unlikely.

I do not think that the LSU Tigers should be renamed The EarthQuakes. Tigers fits perfectly. The Stadium shouldn't be named after him either. That would be like saying if the Rock were to die this year or in a week (which I hope doesn't happen.) that Miami should rename their stadium The ROCK Stadium. I love wrestling, and all, but just because a wrestler plays football in college, they shouldn't change the name of the mascot, or stadium, unless the wrestler won the Heismn every year, and won the national championship every year. Now if they ever had a wrestling team or something, they could maybe honor him in a small way. Please don't think I'm sounding all rude in this post as I'm not coming off like that. I just think in the sports world (not wrestling world) that you have to accomplish, win many championships, set records, and be known as one of the greatest players to ever play the sport before you ever get any thing named after you, whether it be a team name, or stadium name. Look at Michael Jordan for instance. When I stood outside of the United Center this past Summer in Chicago, and I saw the Jordan Statue, I couldn't believe it. It was beautiful, and the best thing about the statue was on each side of the structure that holds it up, it has all of his NBA numbers, stats, how many times he won awards in the leauge, ect. Didn't mean to write that much. I was motivated by what some people were saying in this thread. later
