It worked so well because Finlay and JBL were involved. They could be fighting over a danish and probably make us care.

I missed the match due to work, but I ended up catching it when I got home. Personally, everything worked. JBL caught me off guard when he attacked Finlay. The awkwardness of Vince finally getting his hands on Hornswoggle was done right. Finlay going crazy on the ropes was greatly done. JBL being a total psycho was great. JBL and McMahon working together is awesome to me. When I saw JBL gearing for the fall-away slam, I said to my self "He should do it on the cage." Then he did it then I marked. JR and King silence was a nice touch.
sorry folks. that segment was a mission accomplished.

I think about this angle, and I hate it.
However, the beatdown was extremely well-done. It was an emotional moment where everything came together. McMahon whipping Hornswaggle, then deciding he's had enough and leaving. JBL, very methodically beating the crap out of Hornswaggle, as well as the leprechaun's constant "why are you doing this?" look on his face.... Finlay screaming out "take it out on me, come on!" As much as I hate this storyline, I have to admit... I was enthralled on Monday.
Honestly, I think the reason why is because... for me, there are times I forget that Hornswoggle is a fully-grown man, just that he's a dwarf. So there are times in his "about to cry" emotions, and during the beatdown.. where it actually feels like a small child is being beaten mercilessly.

This was the WWE at its best. I love how an angle that's comic can get so serious so quickly.
Great, effective segment. Got JBL over HUGE.

This, I think, is the very definition of "smart mark". All fans are "marks", weather "smart" or not, which means that they "mark out" for things. "marking out" can either be a positive response for something good (intended) or a negative response for something bad (also intended).
Sometimes (not all the time), a "smart mark" will use their "smarts" to justify their "marking out" of something.
case in point: Last nights Hornswaggle angle. Lets be honest with ourselves, there was so much talent involved with that angle last night that it caused all the fans to "mark out". Over heels finally beat up an over babyface, a tragedy, giving massive heat to the heels. Now everyone hates JBL and Vince and want to see Finlay get revenge.
That's why you're going to watch next week.
The thing is though, is that some "marks" that hate what happenned (Intended) will justify their hatred for the heels (intended) by saying Vince and JBL should get their asses kicked and that they shouldn't have done it. Meanwhile, a "smart mark" that hated what happened (intended) will justify their hatred for the heels (Intended) by saying that the angle sucked and that they shouldn't have done it.
Also, some "smart marks" will say that they "liked it" at the risk of not sounding like a "mark".
Let's all be honest, nobody liked what happened and we all want to see Vince and JBL get their asses kicked.
As much as I hated it, It was great storytelling and great for heat suring this particular feud leading up to Wrestlemania.

It's because if leprechauns wash their face the pixie dust comes off, so he's still dirty from when he DID live under the ring. Duh... You know, what you said actually made sense. I'd suggest you apply for a job at WWE Creative, but you make TOO MUCH sense, so you're overqualified. It's Wrestlecrap, my friends. This is all part and parcel. Like it or not. And I really don't like it. Pointless doesn't quite explain it and a waste of time doesn't do it justice.

I don't like Finlay or JBL so I didn't like it. The only positive thing is it's (hopefully) gotten Jericho out of his JBL feud.

I think this is more about Finley watching his friend get the crap beat out of him. He took him to the back very upset. This might be trying to make Finley a bigger babyface. Also It will sut up a tag match at WM.

If it didn't involve a comedy leprechaun, it would've been better received... however, like Hornswoggle or not (for the record, I do, I generally enjoy his segments... wrestling is plenty dumb, it's not like there's some inherent believability that is being shattered by a leprechaun), it wouldn't have been as shocking with any other male worker, or even a random midget.

I think Hornswoggle has a certain character to him. He's like a little puppy. He likes to play, gets overzealous at times and can be a handful if you're not patient. When scolded he cowers and frowns and acts helpless.
If JBL beat the crap out a small yellow lab puppy last night the angle would be equally hot.

Am I the only one who though the forum overreacted to this entire thing (Seriously, when I finally saw the segment, I said to myself, "...That's it?").

Good God Just when I actually start enjoying this angle, people start bashing it. I swear that this forum is smurfing Bizarro World. I never liked in the first place, no matter how many people praise this idea, no amount of abuse to a midget(leprachuan) will erase former weeks of tricycles,Acme Box traps,Spray Painted walls,TnT rigged rings, and the fact that even though he looks 30 somehow he's supposed to be 7 eyars old, this angle has been dead in the water sense vince went with plan b and announced him as his son, the only good its done is give finaly more tv time which he deserves.

the only thing I would enjoy about what has happened is if JBL faces Finlay instead of Jericho as planned and Y2J gets in on Money In The Bank Match
