It's a kayfabed streak...it's not like this is a real sport here. Everyone else worked to give it to you so when you are going to go out you give it back, that's how the business works.
So you give it back, then the guy you give it to fails 3 wellness tests or decides its not for him so he quits. And suddenly the one thing you had that nobody else can ever lay claim to, at least not such an impressive streak of 15-0, was wasted on some asshole.
Kayfabe, yes. But that doesn't make it any less relevant. Taker's given plenty to the business, why should he have to give everything?
Agreed. Not just because I can't stand Edge, but because I've been a fan of The Undertaker since before he was The Undertaker. I actually liked his gimmick of Mean Mark Callous that he had in WCW. And just look at the list of wrestlers that made up the streak.
Wrestlemania VII
Opponent: Jimmy Snuka
When the Undertaker came onto the scene there was hardly anybody in the WWE, except for Hulk Hogan, that could even knock him off his feet. Some thought the legendary Jimmy Snuka might have a shot at but the Undertaker beat the legend rather easily.
Wrestlemania VIII
Opponent: Jake Roberts
The Undertaker had gone toe to toe with Hulk Hogan and many other legends but the WWE wanted to put over the fact even more that Undertaker was the toughest. So in 1992 he went head to head against the toughest badass in the WWE, Jake "the Snake" Roberts, and won.
Wrestlemania IX
Opponent: Giant Gonzalez
Unfortunately by 1993 the Undertaker had beaten everybody in the WWE so they had to go out and find somebody even bigger than the Undertaker. The Giant Gonzalez was big and menacing, even bigger than the Undertaker, but unfortunately this win would not be a very pretty match.
Wrestlemania XI
Opponent: King Kong Bundy
The following year the WWE would bring in another very large man to face the Undertaker. This time it was in the form of King Kong Bundy. But once again the big man would not be enough to end the Undertaker's streak.
Wrestlemania XII
Opponent: Diesel
For the first time the Undertaker was given an opponent that would actually give him a challenge. Diesel was a former Heavyweight champion in the WWE but not even a World Champion could end the Undertaker's streak.
Wrestlemania XIII
Opponent: Psycho Sid
The following year would be another first for the Phenom. At Wrestemania XIII the Undertaker's match against Sycho Sid was for the WWE World Title. The Undertaker's title win would be his first title since he defeated Hulk Hogan in 1991.
Wrestlemania XIV
Opponent: Kane
In 1997 Paul Bearer revealed that the Undertaker had a brother, Kane. The angle led up to a match at the following Wrestlemania but not even the younger brother could defeat the older sibling.
Wrestlemania XV
Opponent: Big Boss Man
The Undertaker had become very famous for his great matches in the Hell in the Cell against Shawn Michaels and Mic Foley. Unfortunately the WWE then started using the Hell in the Cell match too much. The Hell in the Cell Match against the Big Boss Man would go down in history as one of the worst Hell in the Cell matches ever, but a win is a win.
Wrestlemania X-7
Opponent: Triple H
The Undertaker had taken on many challenging opponents but none of them were very good matches. That is until the Undertaker faced Triple H in 2001. The two future Hall of Fame wrestlers battled in a bloody no disqualification match, but even this no disqualification match ended with the same result.
Wrestlemania X-8
Opponent: Ric Flair
The Undertaker turned heel and would do anything to get a Wrestlemania match against Ric Flair, going as far as attacking Ric's son David. You would think Ric Flair would get revenge by beating the Undertaker, but not even the greatest wrestler ever could beat him.
Wrestlemania XIX
Opponent: The Big Show & A-Train
The Undertaker is now 10 - 0. It's time to try something new. I've got an idea, let's make the Undertaker wrestle two guys at once! Nope, that won't work either.
Wrestlemania XX
Opponent: Kane
The Undertaker took some time off but returned at Wrestlemania XX to once again face his younger brother Kane. This was the first time he faced an opponent for a second time at Wrestlemania but Kane once again would fail to get the win.
Wrestlemania 21
Opponent: Randy Orton
Ever since Randy Orton began his career in the WWE he has been dubbed "a legend killer." Randy Orton has beaten many legends in the WWE including Ric Flair, Triple H and Shawn Michaels. But at Wrestlemania 21 Randy Orton faced one legend that he couldn't kill.
Wrestlemania 22
Opponent: Mark Henry
For a long time the Undertaker's signature wrestling match has been the casket match. The Undertaker has beaten many wrestlers in a Casket Match including Kamala and Yokozuna so he wasn't about to lose his signature match to Mark Henry.
Wrestlemania 23
Opponent: Batista
For over a year now the Undertaker has had an ongoing feud with Batista. One of their best matches came at Wrestlemania 23 where the Undertaker won the World Title at Wrestlemania for a second time.
Looking at this list, I have to say that even though it is "kayfabed", I think if Edge wins, he would be the weakest opponent that Taker has faced at Wrestlemania since probably Giant Gonzalez. I mean, would Edge have even gotten the push he did if it wasn't leaked on the internet that he supposedly was nailing Lita behind Matt's back? Sure, he's got the cowardly heel champ thing going (and this god awfully distasteful gimmick with Eddy's widow), but you want me to believe that the man who can whup Mark Henry, Batista, and Triple H at Wrestlemania could lose to Edge? I know it's Kayfabed, but still ...
I personally would think that it would be an insult for Taker to lose his match at Wrestlemania after all he has done for the company through the years.
