Simply put, my sole problem with how AJ is written is that he's portrayed so submissive and dumb more often than not.
Is that how everyone else feels? Or are people just irritated by the fact that he's shown he knows how to be funny?

I love it. Instead of cringing when AJ comes on the screen while not in a match, I anticipate it.

I love AJ as a comedy character, but, it shouldn't be pushed too hard. Also, he should be an arrogant guy who thinks that he is the greatest star in the world and yet worships Angle. But, he is actually a goof when not in the ring.

It is funny I'll at the moment but in the end if AJ wants to remain/get to main event status he's going to have to get serious, comedy characters and longevity do not belong together in wrestling and eventually can have an adverse effect on a wrestler to the point where he is never taken seriously again (Eugene anyone) imho.

I still think comparing AJ's character to Eugene is completely ludicrous.

Yeah I know it's not that bad but let's be honest he's not THAT far away either, AJ is portrayed as your stereo typical southern American dumbass (I have no idea where he's from but that's what he's portrayed as) whilst Eugene was mentally limited/disabled.

Also does nobody else find it ridiculous that for weeks Christian and Angle vied for the services of AJ Styles (who as aforementioned is apparently the biggest dumbass/goofball walking the planet) but weren't that bothered about Tomko, someone portrayed as a 6'6" ass kicking machine?! Or is it just me who finds that strange?

Or is it just me who finds that strange? Tomko told Christian from the beginning (after siding with Angle), that hes done with Christian, so Cage stopped trying for him. Then he got sick of Angle, and Angle was still trying to get him back up until Tomko beat the hell out of him last week. The whole thing with AJ was that he wanted to be on both sides. Tomko wanted to be on no ones side. He just wanted to defend his belt and take care of business.

I like it IF they finally have him get fed up and attack Angle, Christian or whomever. He does the funny thing well, but hopefully it'll build to something rather than him just being a buffoon.

I don't mind AJ being a little goofy, but he's basically been reduced to pee-pants little boy with barely a scrap of intelligence.

Agreed this is the only way AJ can come out of this with his credibility in tact imo, hopefully it'll be built over the next few months with AJ beating top guy after top guy (Christian, Booker, Tomko etc) stopping the goofiness but still do Angle's dirty work, eventually however turning to Angle and demanding a title shot seeing as he's beaten all of Angle's former #1 contenders. Of course Angle denies him it and then when AJ turns Angle beats him down heavily, then a few weeks later AJ returns as a surprise partner or something against Angle and pins him, he's granted a title shot and finally dethrones Angle (who is still holding the belt from now till this point) at a major PPV! Possibly at Bound For Glory?! With AJ a top 'homegrown' star finally getting/returning to the top of the mountain! Any opinions?

I just find it stupid that he's been turned into a retard. Okay, so he makes me laugh. Would you buy a ppv because you find the retarded guy funny?

I'm torn about AJ's character: I hate how he's made to look like a stupid weakling, but he's just so awesome in the role.

Well, he did seem to grow a pair tonight, didn't want to get pushed around by Angle.

Comedy characters are fine....except when its the guy in the company who's won all three championships several times over BEFORE Christian was even there, and Christian says that he gave him everything in the company...I just switched the channel after that.

Well you have to understand, there's TNA: BR(Before Rhino) and TNA: AR(After Rhino) because as soon as he showed up TNA became "The Southern Home for Disgruntled WWE'ers". I mean Jarrett doesn't even get any mention anymore, and they teamed Killings with Pacman Jones. I'm surprised the X Division still exists.

I love his current character. In between the cocky AJ of early TNA and this goofy AJ, he was just another generic flippy guy.

I kinda like the direction he started on tonight. He stood up to Kurt, but at the same time still pulled off the goofy character. Plus this whole time he's always had that insane arrogence when he's in the ring.
They're close to having the perfect balance, but not quite there. He's still a WAY better character than he was in the first couple years of TNA
