TV Show sucked, I remember watching it between Auggie Doggie and the Second showing of the 700 Club on Family Channel back in the day.
However, I only rented the game once, and I didn't have a manual, and didn't get too far.

I hate old style point and click puzzle/adventure games. I love Maniac Mansion. That family is so awesome bizarre. I was terrible at it though. The onlt game like that I've ever really acceled at was Discworld.

What a great game. The TV show had NOTHING to do with the game and was horrible beyond words. It made the New Munsters seem highbrow.

LOL!!! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that thought of the horrible Family Channel tv show with Joe Flaherty.

I played the game before they had to re release it with some stuff changed. In my version you could microwave the hamster, but in the version my mother bought my nephew later you couldn't no matter what character you used.

I loved that game. Once, I came so close to beating it. I just needed the key that was in the pool, but when I drained it and the alarms started going off, I freaked out, and never got the key.

Loved the game. My friend had it and we'd play it all the time I slept over. We'd seriously rent a game, and then play it for a half hour or an hour and then play Maniac Mansion the rest of the night. He leant it to me and I beat it a few times on my own.
One of my two favorite NES games along with River City Ransom.
Oh yeah... and I the first cat I had, I named Tunahead in honor of the end dialogue.

I urge everyone who can read my words to locate "Maniac Mansion Deluxe" a freeware remake of the original PC Maniac Mansion (without all the NES censorship bollocks) created by LucasFan with Adventure Game Studio. It rawks! Oh hell, don't take my word for it. Download it yourself here. What do you got to lose? It's free. And anyone who wants to know just how Draconian Nintendo's censorship policies use to be should definitely read this. Funny stuff.

Loved this game even though I never beat it, loved the sequel (Day of the Tentacle) even more. I miss the heyday of LucasArts adventure games. So off-the-wall funny and challenging at the same time.

In my version you could microwave the hamster, but in the version my mother bought my nephew later you couldn't no matter what character you used. Oh man, have I got a story to share. Maybe this should go in the "say something embarrassing about yourself" thread. My parents got Maniac Mansion for me when I was, geez, 8 or 9 years old. I remember reading about microwaving the hamster in some video game strategy book, and I refused to play the game after that! The thing is, I never knew if my copy of the game had this feature; I was just so distraught by the fact that you could harm an animal, I just couldn't bring myself to play it. I remember on the game show "Video Power" someone stumping Johnny Arcade by asking how deep the pool was in MM. Why I still recall that, I have no idea.

Never played Day of the Tentacle but boy did I love this game on the NES. I played it uncensored too on Commerdore 64 and it didn't warp my mind beyond believe. I watched the tv show and at the time, I rather liked it. Looking back, that show was horrid. But I was such a big fan of the game I think I brainwashed myself into liking the show. Also in retrospect, I bet George Lucus directed every episode of that show. As for the game, I went out of my way to get all the endings, which I don't exactly remember right now. I liked the one were you get the meteor a book publishing deal. And who didn't like the individualized music for each character. It's just too bad Jeff is worthless.

it took me about 10 years to figure out how to open the front door, still haven't beat it. Day of the tentacle on the other hand i could probably beat in a day now.

This was/is one of my alltime favorite games.Maybe even #1.I played the game mainly on Commodore64/128 though and not very much on nintendo.I beat the nintendo version years later in one night but the good memories were of the game on PC.Has to be one of the first games with multiple ways to beat it dosen't it?Either way props to the game, and thumbs down to the tv show.
