Rules: Though this game allows you to use modifiers that give you things like unlimited lives, unlimited pepper, and so on, they are not allowed in the tournament. BUT, if we have too much trouble getting high scores, unlimited pepper can be allowed if enough people vote to allow it. You may have as many chances as you'd like to get the high score, ultimately, the person who gets the score which no one else can attain, wins. Contest ends on Friday at midnight. Figured an actual stopping point might actually make more sense and help declare a winner. If this goes well there will be more tourneys. We're on the honor system folks, no cheating, because honestly...there's not really a big prize at stake here. Also, an addendum to the rules, if somehow you manage to get like, a RIDICULOUSLY almost unbelievable high score, print screen that mofo and show us. The game is: c64s.com/game/100791/burger_time_'97/ Here. You may need to dust off IE to play it because it gives my Firefox fits. Random Void trivia: Burgertime is one of my faaaavorite old arcade games. I've never played it in a cabinent, or even on a console! When I briefly lived in the Dallas area, I used to play it with my friend Laura on an emulator all the time. Fun times, frustrating game. It's also the only extremely frustrating game I can tolerate. The game is just so...bizarre that I get caught up in it's charms and enjoy being chased by the random food items. They can out fox ya. ENOUGH FUZZY MEMORIES, GET TO COOKING IN THE MOST BIZARRE FORM OF COOKING EVER! Let the WC Burgertime Tournament...BEGIN! Current High Score: JFBop37 with 44,500 points Previous High Scores/The General High Score Screen: "Statboy" PKSandman with 4,250 points Void with 5,150 points Ichi Man with 12,450

I can't seem to get the damn thing to work. It says "Click inside the game window and press space to start" and then nothing happens.

You just have to press space to it's liking it seems. I dunno how exactly to tell you to get it to work without just repeating what the game told you, but yeah, eventually it will go. Try hitting ctrl at it a few times too. It seems you have to have it positioned right scrollbar wise too. If it helps, I clicked dead center of the emulator screen where the rotating diamond is.

I get to the screen where it talks about unlimited pepper but not sure what to do after that. At that screen, push ctrl. I have to push it twice. It should bring you into the arcade demo, push ctrl again to play.

Well, I got you by a good bit, but my score is rather pathetic as well. 4,250 points.

I couldn't get too far without using the unlimited pepper. I had to do that yesterday. It's...a tough game.

This forum should get an arcade section, that'd be cool.

I would ask that it be done for all scores but that's a bit too much effort for something meant to be fun. I trust that no one would actually lie about a score anyway, but yeah.

I'm horrible at this game. If it was a Donkey Kong tourney though, I'd own you all.

44,500 Level 7 was a bitch.
Sorry, started playing before you asked for a print screen. I'm not lying though.

Wait, this game come out in 1997. They were still releasing Commodore games then?

I got lucky in the 2nd round with a pepper on the lettuce. All the baddies ran into it. I think it ended up being 8,000 points. I didn't do real well until I figured out they couldn't get close to you at all so dropping them with layers of the burger doesn't work so well on this game.
I used to love playing the original back in the day.

Wait, this game come out in 1997. They were still releasing Commodore games then? Yeah I found that weird too. I'm pretty sure (like 98%) this isn't a legit version of Burgertime though, and is a port someone did homebrew. So I guess it was just "released" (more than likely for free, considering charging for a copyrighted game would likely have repercussions on a biiig scale.) in 1997 by a hobby programmer. On the same website, there's a game called Burger Chase. It is, in fact the same game (visual differences, same gameplay). And yeah JFbop I noticed if they get anywhere near you you're pretty much toast too. That's what makes it so damn hard. I dunno if you caught on to this one as well but if you go down to the starting point and go all the way down the ladder, the food can't hurt you, they'll just pass by. It helps when you're out of pepper.

Oh definately. I'm pretty sure that the reatilers stopped carrying c64 stuff in the early 90's. Certainly by the time the first "next-gen" of game systems came out (Super Nintendo, Genesis, etc.)

Certainly by the time the first "next-gen" of game systems came out (Super Nintendo, Genesis, etc.) In the original Burgertime (I don't seem to remember), can the food hurt you once it's been frozen with pepper? (IE if you try to walk past it) In the Burger Chase version it does, and I found that annoying. The reason I didn't use the Burger Chase version of the game is because of how it controls (W A D Z for arrow keys and H for pepper), it drives me crazy.

No, it became "seasoned" and therefore you could pass through it. Handy for when you get stuck in a dead end row.
