No. I don't think it is wrong to do that.
I think it's more wrong to be one of those casual or fair weather sports fans that only watches a team when they are doing well, and calls his or herself a long time fan of said team/organization. That really grinds my gears. That, and ridiculous homer fans.

The few who go to games ruin the atmosphere as well as they never sing, a large part of football is the singing and banter with the opposition supporters, I'd prefer a bunch of loud mouth drunks any day.

You could be a diehard fan and a polite one as well. Like me. I cheer my head off for the Yankees but I have friends that raz me for being a Yankees fan and I raz them for being Red Sox fans. It's all in good fun. ;D And I think that is most fans out there. Only the real nutjobs are the ones anyone pays attention to because....well, they're nuts.

Yes it's ok. I'm the same way and, believe it or not, I'm a Red Sox fan. All of my friends are Yankees fans. I'm the lone wolf. I go to more Yankees games then I do Red Sox games because there are more opportunities to go... Ah-HAH! You must be hunted down. As surprising as it seems, S-Chrome tries his darnedest to be civil and polite with the Sox fans that scatter in the city... yet, to very little avail. With the Mets, it's a bit better. As for football, it's much better when your team just finished winning it all. ;D

I consider myself to be one of the few polite Red Sox fans. "Goober Nation" as one of my co-workers calls Red Sox Nation, embarrasses me to no end.

I'm actually also quite embarrassed of some of the lengths "Red Sox Nation" goes to, since it basically makes people generalize that any fan of the Red Sox is just another fan of the Yankees only with a different hat. To be fair, I don't try to practice Xenophobia against other states/cities.

Im a Red Sox fan, Im not a super fan or anyone who tries to dazzle "NOOB FANZ!!" with past knowledge, but the recent influx of crappy, annoying, whinning Red Sox fans is annoying as all hell.. Shockingly I actually miss the days of "This Could be the Year" You dont see them same level of BLECH with C's, Pats and Bruins fans.
On the flip, I dont HATE any other players or teams. But I find joy when some lose.

I've turned more into the polite sports fan that you speak off. The only teams I don't like are the Patriots, the Yankees, the Lakers, and the Spurs. But I don't hate any of my friends for being fans of those teams. I just tease them a little when they screw up here and there. As for taking criticism about my teams, I don't mind. My Teams and their faults Atlanta Braves- 11 straight divisional titles, but can't seem to get back to the World Series: Now they can't even get to the playoffs Chicago Bulls- Still can't figure out what to do Dallas Cowboys- They can get back to the playoffs, but something's amiss Dallas Desparados- See Cowboys, Dallas Carolina Panthers- They're kinda a mess right now Nebraska Cornhuskers- Yeah, that was Callahan's fault ;D No man, our Braves won 14 straight division titles! That said there is nothing wrong with being a normal human and being a fan. I enjoy a good amount of playful ribbing and good natured junk talk, but that doesn't mean I judge anyone as a person based on a sports team. For instance, I'm a Braves fan and I get along with Ani, a Mets fan, just fine. Oh yeah. We did win 14 in a row. I couldn't remember exactly how many we won in a row. I don't mind the Mets. I just don't like the Yankees for the 1996 World Series. Crushed my heart that day. Also the Marlins for the 1997 NLCS. They go and win a World Series and then destroy the team next year with trades and releases. Repeat process for 2003 World Series. I can never take the Marlins serious anymore.
