In the distant time of the Spring/Summer of this year nestled somewhere in between the Credit Crisis, the Housing Crisis, the Oil Crisis and the Running out of Crisis' Crisis, there was the Inflation Crisis.
There was a dump truck load of news stories about how bread and milk was way more expensive then it was a year ago, the US Dollar was worth less then Monopoly money, Gold was $1,000 an ounce, and NBA players were tripping over themselves to sign to any European team because the Euro was so awesome.
Whatever happened to that?
I bought a loaf of store bread today for .99cents and a half gallon of milk for $1.49, I look at the Euro/Dollar trade and I see the Euro getting weaker by the day, Gold is $700 an ounce and are any NBA players still asking for European deals?
Strange what 3 months does.

I thought this was about a previous DC Comics mini-series...everything is a crisis to them!

I think these economic crisis' are overhyped and blown out of proportion, especially this Dow Jones crap going on right now.

Really? 99 cents for bread? I worked at a super market for the majority of this year and the cheapest I've seen it was 2.50

Most of the stuff is blown way up by the media.
If you have any living relatives who were alive for the great depression or your parents who heard the stories about it from their parents or anything like that. Don't let them hear you complain about today. They will likely smack you.

This is nothing like the Great Depression, when the Dow plunged to something like 41. This is a recession. The Dow is only a marker of the health of stocks traded therein. The economy itself is in a bad way, with the sheer volume of mortgage, credit card and other debt. We will likely see a bit of a sideways/upward trend over the course of the next year or three, with the mild but noticeable upswing starting somewhere in the 7-10 month range. Then we are in for a big downswing. This year has seen some major symptoms come to the surface, and the stimulus packages and 700bn plan and all the political pandering is only so much Robitussin.
Things aren't good now, but they could be much worse.

Then we are in for a big downswing. So in 7-10 months it'll seem better, but then it will really start to suck? Please clarify.

Erisi I would like to know where you're getting your bread and milk from, and it better not be a crapty off brand either. It sure as hell isn't that cheap for me.
Like I said before, I'm glad you're having a good time, but let's not pretend like there isn't a problem. I've seen it. I'm feeling it. Everyday of my life. I get my once future lively hood continually raped and get to see my grandfather struggle and have everything he worked for ruined at a time he needs it the most. I get to see the 10+ years of hard work and dedication just go down the toilet. Something that is dear and personal to me that used to be healthy and vibrant just slowly dies. I don't want to hear how there is no problem because I know there is.

Only if you eat white bread, which is somewhat useful for a bit of base nutrition, but useless in any sort of decent culinary application. White bread is mostly air, folks. Do yourself a favor and get a loaf of sourdough.

Well, I'd think that if you ate too much cheap bread, your digestion might go a-rye.

Thinking of baking my own damned bread at this point, but that's really the yeast of my problems. The YEAST of my problems. ;D
