It's funny.... I was just watching a little of Wrestlemania XX the other night. First match was Cena vs. Big Show. It was unreal the amount of support Cena got that night. It made me wonder.... if Cena came back with his rapping gimmick, would the people get behind him again? People supported him because the odds really were against him in that match. Even if Cena loses a match these days you don't feel like the odds overcame him, you feel like a bizarre spacial anomaly has happened. Whatever about that anyway, John Cena as a person is made out of 100% pure awesome so high five to him for that. I just hope that his loyalty is repaid somehow after he's retired from the ring.

I don't like the way John Cena's character on TV is booked with the constant references to "poop" and stuff, but I have a tremendous amount of respect for John Cena the man. I have never ever heard a negative story as far as fans who have met him goes. Other than the JBL limo graffiti incident, which seems to have been a jab at the idiots on the Internet, when have all these "poop" references occurred? Just curious, because I can't recall hearing him talk about anyone's bowels since he quit rapping. Ironically enough, I've heard more "poop" references from those that criticize him (poop face, poop jokes) than I have ever heard from Cena.

Ive always admired Cenas drive for the industry
He bleeds wrestling, always has done and always will be.
Its ashame people dont respect him and boo him though I mean fair enough its their money they can do whatever the f*** they want but I just never understood the booing
Are they booing the person?
The character?
The booking?

Great article, full of truth... but I don't get the sense that Heyman is really praising Cena for all of this. There's a feel to this writing, a feel that says "I'm not saying anything uplifting about the guy, just pointing out what a company man he is."
I, for one, praise him for all that he does for the E. Just don't know if that's Heyman's intention here.

Nice to see a little insight into just how dedicated the guy is to wrestling. I personally love watching Cena and feel Raw is lacking without him or Orton on the show.

100% True. Love him or Hate him. It's 100% true. He is the Kevin Garnett of Pro Wrestling.

If every guy on WWE's roster had the drive that John Cena does, then we would have nothing to complain about. Once again, Paul E is right on the money.

I may have questions about how he's booked and how his character is profiled, but I'll never doubt the man's commitment to the business.
He's someone that should be respected for being a real company guy.
I really really hope he stays for the full amount of time and then some to recover. If he comes back before he should, it could be a lot worse then it is now.

While I loathe the character Cena portrays, I'm never had any problem with him as a person. He always seems to be wanting to entertain the fans. Hell, he came back from what was supposed to be at least a 6-month injury in half the time, just to wrestle again. That takes commitment.
John Cena. Awful character. Great man.

I've met John Cena personally mabe 6 or 7 times. Awesome, down-to-Earth person, dosen't seem like you're meeting a celebrity. Would Jennifer Aniston just hang around the mall chilling at best Buy with fans and sign autographs for free right after an autograph session? Probably not.

Like everyone else said, kudos to John Cena for being a class act, and kudos to WWE for rewarding him.
That said, while I'm always in favor of giving credit where credit is due, the fact remains Cena has plenty of critics. McMahon will eventually need to push him aside slightly if his appearances do little for business. And if Cena remains a good character backstage despite not being the top guy, than I'll praise him even more.

I may find Cena's on-air stuff utterly boring, but I respect Cena himself immensely.

I heard something, back in early 2004, that implied that Cena and Benoit were the two choices to win the Rumble and go on to win the World Title at Wrestlemania. As the story went, Cena recognized that Benoit deserved it a hell of a lot more than he did and said that he didn't think he had earned it like Benoit had. It's been over four years, and I don't remember much more than that but, if true, that earned a lot of respect from me.
Still, as an in-ring performer, I just don't get why he's been pushed like he has. He either bores or annoys me, anytime I've ever seen him. If he'd get some damn wrestling gear, instead of dressing like some 14 year old wigger and focus more on his ringwork and less on trying to emulate the Rock during his promos, maybe I'd see a little more in him.

He wore wrestling gear for the first three or four months of his WWE career. They changed it.

I may be sick of Cena's face run, but the fact he seems like a genuine nice guy and loves the business makes me dislike him a lot less.
Some people say they can separate a person's character from their work, and I get that to a point, but to me good character also adds a lot to a person.
