The Godfather is over rated. Its sort of this fanciful idea of the mafia. But films like Goodfellas and the sopranos are way closer to real life. Also, the reviewer basically admitted godfather part 3 was included becausethe first two were good rather than it being a decent film on its own. Batman begins being in the top 100 was unneccessary. Batman returns should have been ranged than begins at least. The blair witch project should have been on there, if cloverfield somehow made it. The Blair Witch Project was not actually good. People just bought into the hype too easily. Although that is my biased opinion I think it's easy for people to dismiss it. But, really, the first time I watched that film was completely terrified. Its builds up the tension and dread better than any horror film I've ever seen..

While it is not my personal favorite ever, there is a very strong argument that can be made for it being the greatest film of all time. More puzzling than anything, however, is the placement of It's a Wonderful Life at no. 195. That is a ridiculously low ranking for a movie that, some 60 years after it's release, is such a relevant part of our culture.

Although this was an online poll, Empire is an English magazine. So even though IAWL is a very popular film over there (I'm assuming you're from the US), it isn't as big a part of our culture over here, so that could suggest the lower placing on the list.

I probably should not have worded it that way. Still, I am surprised that the movie placed so low.

I actually belive Goodfellas is a better mobster, mafia film than Godfather.
Overall though it's a good varied list, glad to see Jaws still gets the love it deserves, great film.
Not so sure about Carrie being in the top 100 though ... never thought that film was any great shakes.

I'm much more disturbed by the absence of either Fitzcarraldo or Aguirre: Wrath of God in the entire top 500. That is truly tragic.
