If you haven't already now would be a good time to cut up all your credit cards and live on good old fashioned cash or your debit card, and save your money in a just a plain old vanilla savings account. All of us living off credit and buying crap we don't need for the past 10 or so years is a good chunk of the reason what caused this. Japan went through a 10 year recession but they weren't running around like chickens with there heads cut off, they just lived within their means and saved their money. I know it's not really a much known concept in America but it's time to live like a normal human being. Buying crap you dont need is a good way to avoid a recession

In the short term, money is just merely a means to an end. Life will still flourish, food will still be farmed, the sun will continue to shine, rocks can still be used to build homes, trees will still provide shelter.
Get my point?

Though no doubt some Venture Capitalists will already own the rock and have plans for mass-deforestation...

Way ahead of you. I rarely use my credit card unless I absolutely have to. I was a little worried about what's going in large part because I have an account at Washington Mutual and they are in dire straits right now. Then Morgan Chase bought it so it looks as if that was a good thing.

Way ahead of you. I rarely use my credit card unless I absolutely have to. I don't even have a credit card, throw away all of the preapproved ones. I have college loans to deal with, no need to pile on credit card debt on top.

I thought we weren't supposed to discuss politics? Talking about the economy is fine, if you can leave politics out of it. In that case, I'm not too worried. I enjoy seeing millionaires cry over being unable to buy second homes and other luxuries.

I don't have any huge loans out on a house and car I can't pay for, nor do I spend money on bottled water or PalmPilot accessories. I'm just a diabetic kid with a right leg I can't use (because of nerve damage from neuropathy.) So, at face value it looks like I have nothing to worry about.
But even though I get food stamps, it still hurts to go to the grocery store. I might not have a car, but gas prices hurt me too. I can't walk everywhere you know.
Regardless of politics, I'm pretty sure that the government just buying up all of the foreclosed homes and banks isn't going to fix anything. What are they gonna do, sell it back to us to make up the money? If we could afford it in the first place wouldn't this mess not exist? And where is the 700 billion dollars coming from if we're trillions in debt anyway? It's like Lewis Black said a few years ago. They think that tax cuts will stimulate the economy when every state in the Union is flat broke. What tax money are you cutting?

I guess I'm safe from this at the moment, but our rep as a nation is going to take a bit of a hit.

I guess I'm safe from this at the moment, but our rep as a nation is going to take a bit of a hit. Uhhh yeah I think we lost are good rep as a nation a very long time ago. LOL Really staying out of debt is the best thing to do. I may still live with my parents but I don't spend money on anything except for gas and car insurance and a measely fifteen dollars a month on a gym membership which I'll probably drop considering all the exercise you do in a gym you can do at home. Actually if I lived on my own I would probably be saving more money because driving back and forth between my mom and dad's houses across town is where most of my gas money goes. I guess that and the fact that I'm cheap helps me stay good financially. ;D If you want my solution on all of this here it is. You know how sometimes you get hurt and the pain is really bad? What do you do? Thats right you hurt yourself even worse somewhere else on your body so you don't think about the original hurt. Taking that simple strategy I have devised a plan. Heres what we do. We find some zombie virus! We infect an entire city! That way once zombies start taking over the world we will forget all about the pain of this little financial crisis!!!!! I mean who is worried about their mortgage when some creepy bloody messed up guy is chasing them and trying to eat their brain? ;D LOL

I nominate Raccoon City.
Failing that, Los Angeles is a nice place to start.
