What were your true thoughts on this KISS tribute album? It features a pretty solid lineup of early-to-mid 90's music staples... 1. Deuce - Lenny Kravitz 2. Hard Luck Woman - Garth Brooks 3. She - Anthrax 4. Christine Sixteen - Gin Blossoms 5. Rock & Roll All Night - Toad the Wet Sprocket 6. Calling Dr. Love - Shandi's Addiction 7. Goin' Blind - Dinosaur Jr. 8. Strutter - Extreme 9. Plaster Caster - The Lemonheads 10. Detroit Rock City - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones 11. Black Diamond - Yoshiki Shandi's Addiction is actually Maynard James Keenan, Tom Morello, Billy Gould and Brad Wilk in an awesome one-off recording.

Never heard it, but I imagine with those bands it's probably way better than anything KISS actually put out.

As a KISS fan, I wasn't all that thrilled with this album.

Oh wow, Yoshiki Hayashi.
Didn't expect to see him here. That's cool I guess. The leader of one of my favorite bands covering a song of one of my not so favorite bands. ;D

It was interesting. I grew up on Kiss, and I thought it was pretty cool. It's not nearly as cool as "Spin the Bottle" though, which is another Kiss tribute album. Rather than have an established band come in and do a cover, they took a bunch of rockers from different bands (sort of like that "Shandi's Addiction" one-off). Some of those artists include:
Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Tommy Shaw (Styx), CHRIS JERICHO, Kip Winger (Winger), Buzz Osborne (The Melvins), Page Hamilton (Helmet), Lemmy (Motorhead), Doug Pinnick (King's X), and CC Deville (Poison), among a bunch of others.
It's pretty rockin' if you dig Kiss, though obviously those that don't really wouldn't wanna hear a tribute to them in the first place.

KISS My Ass - one of the only "tribute" albums I'm aware of that was put together by the original band themselves.
The two best tracks are (and I can't believe I'd ever say these words) Brooks' "Hard Luck Woman" and Yoshiki's "Black Diamond."

If you can find an international copy or the US vinyl, I though "Unholy" by Die Ärzte was a pretty good track, too.

I enjoyed 3 songs, the two Madison mentioned and Detroit Rock City by the Boss Tones.
Also Garth Brooks has a hardon for Kiss, so I'm not surprised his was good.

I thought Garth Brooks' version was just plain boring. It sounded so much like the original.
I prefer cover songs to have some form of originality to it. At least make it sound like you're being you and not someone else.
My favourite track on this record was probably Dinosaur Jr.'s version of "Goin Blind". But hell, I might be biased as all f***, as I'm a big Dinosaur Jr. fan.

1. Deuce - Lenny Kravitz-pretty good, been awhile since I've listened to it
2. Hard Luck Woman - Garth Brooks-Was very impressed-he didn't use that country twang of his
3. She - Anthrax-always love Anthrax-they did a really good version of another Kiss song, "Lover her all I can" as a B-side for one of their singles-Black Lodge I think
4. Christine Sixteen - Gin Blossoms-never been impressed with Gin Blossoms or anything they've ever done, even Kiss songs
5. Rock & Roll All Night - Toad the Wet Sprocket-I f***ing hate this version and them for doing it-utter shit
I did enjoy Extreme's version of "Strutter" it sounded like Extreme covering a Kiss song
I don't go for someone doing a cover and f***ing it up just to be f***ing it up. Sometimes change works and sometimes it doesn't. Change was the point of this album, but it was the last covers album I ever bought and probably ever will.
I would have loved to hear the original album they wanted to make, I think they mention the artists in the liner notes. Bell Biv Devoe doing a Kiss song?-Hell yea!

4. Christine Sixteen - Gin Blossoms-never been impressed with Gin Blossoms or anything they've ever done, even Kiss songs I can't believe that Wonk. It's common knowledge that the song "Found Out About You" was handed down to Doug Hopkins (RIP) from God himself. And you'll never hear a more highly regarded song about 1980's adult film starlet Keli Richards than the Gin Blossoms' "Keli Richards". You seem like a reasonable fellow Wonk, I hope you'll take some time and explore some of the Gin Blossoms catalog before deciding to write them off forever.

I don't see why it's a big deal if the original artists' themselves have a hand in a tribute album to THEM.
Otherwise, you get something like Covered Dead or Alive - A Bon Jovi tribute album that is an absolute mess.

It's one thing if one was in the works and they were asked for opinions but to set it up themself? That reeks of conceit.

Gene is one of the more notorious egomaniacs in rock history.
