As of roughly 20-30 minutes ago, I started to notice a decidedly weird odor in my apartment. It almost smells like a skunk just died somewhere nearby, but I know it isn't. Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing the odors?

Weed can smell like skunk sometimes, perhaps a neighbor is doing it

Are you in a ground floor apartment? Yes, yes I am. Also, to give you a general sense of where I live, my apartment is underneath the drier vent for the washers and driers. However, no washers or driers are currently running at this time.

However, no washers or driers are currently running at this time. OK, well, here's what I suggest. Spray some Febreze or something, or even just some air freshener, to mask the scent for the night. If you can still smell it tomorrow, you may want to tell your landlord(s), as some kind of animal may have gotten trapped either above or (more likely) below your apartment. If it doesn't persist, more than likely the other poster is correct about pothead neighbours.

Guess I'll have to live with the smell for the rest of the night. EDIT: Disregard the last edit. I was wrong.

Sounds like old man Faasbender who lives next door finally keeled over in the laundry room. It's probably just his rotting essence you're smelling.

Time to replace the dairy food in the fridge maybe.

Be wary - some natural gas has odors like this added to it. If possible, check with others to see if they're getting the smell in their place too. May want to contact a fire department regarding it.

How do you know a skunk isn't nearby?

Explain this to me. The average human being smells a skunk on the side of the road and gets nauseous. A stoner smells the same skunk, they get horny.

It isn't a skunk...it's a black cat that accidentally got some white paint on its back.

It isn't a skunk...it's a black cat that accidentally got some white paint on its back. And then Pepe Le Pew chased after it for about 10 minutes til it fell into a vat of water and the paint washed off. I graduated from Looney Tunes University with a Masters Degree in Consarn Rabbits!

I always felt so bad for that cat. Not only did she get (presumably) lead based paint on her fur, she got essentially molested by a random skunk. That has to rank up there on a list of bad days.

You pissed anyone off lately? Or do you know someone that likes to pull pranks?
Cause they might of left some meat to rot in your ventilation system.
