Yeah I misread something $48,745,440 was opening weekend...My bad and the movie barley had time to be hyped as Ledger died in January 7 months before the films release

Also, it doesn't matter if a movie just came out, or if it came out at the begining of the year. If it's good it's good and if the actor's did a good job, they did a good job.

Most oscar movies don't come out until November, December and January

but, to be fair, films that open later tend to have a better chance seeing as most voters forget earlier performances.
However, everyone knows the rules of the game. Studios/Distributors purposely wait until now to release the "Oscar" movies because they know it gives them the best chance.
That's why WB is releasing Dark Knight again. To try to drum up some support.

Yeah that's true to an extent but if a movie is truly great it would not be forgotten. Look how people wont, and have not shut up over Heaths performance....

I think the guy that played Harvey Dent should get the nod over Ledger but that's just my opinion...

thats been my opinion since day one, the movie is centered on him. He is the most important character in the movie and Eckhart was amazing. He didnt overdose though so no one cares

Would there even be any Oscar buzz for Heath Ledger if he was alive? Exactly the movie didnt have the hype until Ledger died, batman begins is a great example, it was a success but made only like 50 mil domestic? THe Dark KNight would have been the same if Ledger didnt die, I love the movie but I am not delusional I disagree, the movie had lots of hype before he died, people were posting joker pics from the set and all that. And I think Batman Begins didn't do as well because it didn't have an established villain in it and everyone was weary of a new Batman series.
