If someone (a non wrestling fan) where to give you the opportunity to try and make them like wrestling, or turn them into a fan, where would you start? What would you show them first to sell them on the product?

My advice, based on experience: Take them to a show. I have three friends who, before I took them to a show, had either never really watched it before in their lives, or at the very least hadn't watched it since the heyday of old school Sting, and after a couple of shows, they can't wait to go back.

Depends who it is, but in most cases, with the people i hang out with, I just show them funny promos. If they like those I'll expose them to more of the character.

It's much easier to get a non-fan 'in' by showing them lively characters rather than throwing a 60-minute time limit draw of chain wrestling or whatever at them.

I showed some non wrestling fans Savage v Steamboat and they were dead impressed and certainly gave it more respect than before. Nother would be Bulldog or Perfect V Hart from Summerslams or Angle V HBK classic wrestling that are not to long that people would be bored or too short that people would not think much.
I would have said Angle v Benoit from rumble o3 but I doubt double murderers are good advertisments to people.

I agree on taking them to a show. If you're that sold on selling a guy on pro wrestling, $20 isn't too much to spend for a WWE show. (I'm sure it's less for other events.)
My wife only likes wrestling live, because the crowd is really into it. You get caught up in the moment.

I'm taking my girlfriend to the ROH PPV in Boston. She isn't a huge fan, but she respects it.

Go door to door with DVD's in hand. Ride a bike and wear a tie.

Start off showing them MVs like this. Then show them ROH DVDs. After that, they will see some Japanese wrestlers on the shows. Start showing them Japanese DVDs with Kobashi, Marufuji, KENTA, etc. Finally, take them to a live ROH show.

Eddie Kingston vs Shane Storm. To that end, show them Brodie Lee kicking someone's face out of the back of their skull.

honestly, as much as i love noah, and appreciate what roh does, theres no way in hell you should try to convert a non fan by introducing them to anything like that, you have to be a mark before you can be a smark just like all of us were, theres a reason why wwe is watched by millions and roh is watched by thousands and its because it appeals to a niche audience, its better to introduce a non-fan to a more mainstreamised product that shows a little of everything, figure out what they like about it, and then give them stuff that appeals to that niche, if they happen to like stiff looking, puro-lite matches then by all means give them some roh, but if thats not their cup of tea then watching long matches of that will probably put them off wrestling more, i know it would be nice if everyone liked what we personally like but it doesnt always work out that way

I've come to the conclusion it's almost impossible converting a non fan into a fan.
Most of my friends never cared about wrestling, not even during Hulkamania, so they lack the background of being "lost fans" (those who do watched on some occasions, then stopped caring as they grew up/out of it). Thus they always give me the "but if the fight is staged, what's so interesting about it?" speech.
And, trust me, it's really difficult giving an actual answer to that line. "agility, technical skills etc" will bring you back to square one: "I see, but they cooperate to perform the moves, so what's so impressive?". So the only chance is focusing on the storylines, and then hoping for the non-fan to be caught in the loop of "what's next for them?" about an angle. And then they may start "ignoring" the stagedness of the fight.
Showing niche, wrestilng oriented, matches/feds is the best way to keep them AWAY from wrestling. Hell, I can barely sit through long technical matches, and the bush-league appearence of indy shows puts me off... and if that's the reaction of a 25-years fan, I just can imagine how that would go down with a non-fan.
The best way is finding a character that could interest the non-fan, and then showing him the best angle this guy has had, with promos and matches. MAYBE that could work.

Bret Hart and/or Shawn Michaels matches in the mid-ninetites. In my experience, even non-fans stopped at watched, and concluded with, "Wow!"
