DS is the best easily
BUT I have to go with Game Boy because of the fond memories I have of that machine.

My personal answer is the original Game Boy Advance. Main reason behind this is it could play ALL the games from 1989 to 2006 in the Nintendo handheld line with only about 1-2 problems.
That to me is true versatility.

What, no Virtual Boy option?
Well... you could hold it in your hands, right?

I used to wear out California games on my Lynx. I actually still have it.

I got my Gameboy in 1990. I've dropped it down concrete stairs, and it still works perfectly. Almost 20 damn years? Yeah, Gameboy wins.

1. Game Boy Advance 3. Game Boy 3. Game Gear
I'm wondering why Wonderswan and Neo Geo Pocket Color made very little or no impact in the US.

Neo. Geo. Pocket. Color.
It didn't have a game on it that wasn't fun.

Game Gear.
Don't care if GameBoy, GBA, DS etc sold more and lasted longer. Game Gear deserved more success, and it was limited by the poor technology available when it was realized.

GBA, the catalogue of games for it is amazing. I dont think there are many consoles with that many great rpgs (including strategy and tactics rpgs)

GBA. Phenomenal library of games, and the closest and best thing to having a Portable Super Nintendo,

PSP
It has all the game series I love on it. Except for Resident Evil......
I know for a fact Capcom could easily port one of the older games onto it, or they could dumb down the graphics and port Resi 4.....

toss up between the gameboy and gbasp for me. The DS would probably get the vote if gba games played better on it but alas no
