So I'm watching the ECW Quick Cut on wwe.com last night, and I suddenly realized why I don't care about the brand anymore.
During the Matt Hardy and Finlay promo, I couldn't help but feel as if I was watching a show that seriously tarnished my memories of the old ECW.
Finlay - "Matt Hardy. You've taken on all comers since becoming the ECW champion. That is, except for me."
Hardy- "Finlay. I knew that this day would come...."
At that point I was immediately disgusted. Hardy and Finlay are TERRIBLE at promos, and made the ECW title (which is now a big silver piece of turd) look like a child's toy belt. They delivered their lines in the stiffest, most scripted manner possible, and the crowd didn't seem to give a crap.
This didn't feel like ECW at ALL to me. I mean, when I'm seeing an Evan Bourne match, or some of the newcomers like Ortiz, I feel like I can suspend disbelief and pretend that I'm seeing what ECW would have been at this point if it had never shut down. I can deal without seeing barbed wire and tables on every show. I can deal with WWE safe style on ECW. I can even deal with them changing the title. But what I can't stand is the fact that they're making ECW look like a development camp for Raw and Smackdown. It just puts everybody on the ECW roster below the rest of the WWE, and tarnishes a great chapter in wrestling history.
The Jack Swagger promo later on was pretty good though. I was interested in it because he brought up Tommy Dreamers history in the original ECW, and even went into a little detail. The promo seemed like it could've logically happened if I was watching "real ECW".
Opinions?

Any similiarities to ECW are totally coincidental.

It's never going to be the old ECW. I don't even watch it as an extension of it. It's just..what it is.
But I DO agree it's been really dull lately. The pool of talent doesn't interest me very much. Bam Neely, Finaly, Miz/Morrison (who are good but are usually on RAW and Smackdown every week anyway), Matt Hardy, Swagger, Ortiz...blah.

Comparing New ECW to ECW Classic is like comparing apples to shaving cream. They're two completely different things not related to each other at all.

I for one enjoy watching ECW more than I do Raw. Its short. To the point. And lacks the 'main event scene' that gets kinda boring after a while. Then again I've always been a fan of the Sunday Night Heat type shows. I like watching the young talent, and predicting who'll make it big.
So yea... its not ECW, which is a good thing because the original ECW sucked. 8)

I like ECW for the fact there's a decent shot anyone could be champ. Chavo, Henry, Morrison, they're willing to take chances on people.

I prefered Finlay calling people cowards and smashing them with his fist

It just puts everybody on the ECW roster below the rest of the WWE, and tarnishes a great chapter in wrestling history. Even if the old ECW was still around, they would of had to change anyway. There is no way they could still have hardcore matches all the time. People's body would just fall apart. The old ECW was basicaly a farm territory for WWF and WCW. Despite getting a cable slot every Friday night, Taz left, the Dudleys left, Raven left, Stevie Richards left, Mike Awesome left. ECW just wasn't that big of a company to perform at the same level as the other two. Did they have talent? Sure did. Many big names came up through there. But they lacked money which really hurt them. You can only go so far without having that much money. I don't know how you can deal without being hardcore and barbed wire when thats what ECW was. That's a huge part of what ECW was. That and they had new talent we hadn't seen before like Chris, Eddie, Dean, Rey, etc... Honestly, ECW of had to change because even in the last year I didn't watch ECW that much because the hardcore style was getting old after watching it for 4 years. They would of had to change what they were doing. Though I loved ECW, it was a farm territory, but you know what, they were damn good at getting people's names out there. So in a way, thats what the ECW of today is. Preparing wrestlers for the big time. Not the same style, but still the same concept of getting people ready.

How can it not be cheesy? Matt Hardy is the champ. He looks like the poor mans Bret Hart, is bo-legged, and wears friggin parachute pants.
And then you have the neutered Finlay, who dances around with a midget who is now his son. How can this not suck?

ECW is just limping to the end post-draft. I very much doubt the TV deal will be renewed next month. I have a feeling that the fact they're writing such an involved angle for Dreamer signals his retirement.

I have a feeling that the fact they're writing such an involved angle for Dreamer signals his retirement. ECW's ratings have been somewhat consistant, so Sci-Fi will probably be cool with it, if WWE wants to renew it. So far, it's been a good avenue for WWE's Not Ready for Primetime Players. That being said, post, like, Wrestlemania draft should hopefully fix some of the problems they've been having.

It's the highest rated show on Sci-Fi and WWE gets to test the waters on developmental guys. It will be renewed.

Are there people who are STILL bitching that ECW is not the same company that was run by Paul Heyman and went bankrupt? REALLY?
Vince has been running it as is for three years.

Are there people who are STILL bitching that ECW is not the same company that was run by Paul Heyman and went bankrupt? REALLY? Vince has been running it as is for three years. Get the snork over it people. I never once brought up Heyman Seriously though, it's not like I want to see a drastically different program than the one that's already on TV. I just want to see a GOOD wrestling show. Currently, I don't consider ECW to be good. It's simply a way to get the crowd hot for Smackdown (or is it Raw that they tour with now?) at this point, and it shows on camera that the crowd could care less. WWE has turned ECW into Sunday Night Heat. WHY?? Why keep the ECW name in the first place, if the product is going to be NOTHING like the original. That's like bringing back Surge, only it's in a big purple can and tastes like cow semen. If WWE is going to present us with a crappy product, they should be able to do so without tainting history. It's just stupid at this point. Heyman's gone, all the OG ECW guys are gone (save Dreamer), Joey Styles is gone, and in their place we have some of WWE's most boring midcarders. Can we please just change the name to Tuesday Night Heat already??

ECW was awesome earlier this year.
Then Matt Hardy and Mark Henry came over and stank the place out.

Mark Henry has been great in ECW, i never thought i would say that. I really enjoy it as Heat/Saturday night type, show, lower tier talents putting on great matches usually.
