I genuinely thought 'Taker had a chance of losing against Batista and Edge. Batista because of the way the guy was booked at the time, and Edge because he ALSO had a Wrestlemania undefeated streak going.

I'm sure the pitch involved a storyline where HBK becomes downtrodden and does a sad puppy expression as he slowly exits the arena. But what could make him sad? Taker takes away his straw hat and won't give it back? Taker tells HBK that everybody knows about the receeding hairline? Taker steals HBK's parking spot? Undertaker and Shawn will fight over the rights to a shampoo commercial. That's it, I don't care what it costs I'm going to Mania and bringing a sign that says "They are fighting over shampoo!". I may not be a smart ass Canadian (tm Edge), but that sign needs to be there.

Why Not? HBK vs. UT . How about Hulk Hogan vs. Steve Austin to the card? The return of The Rock. Macho Man in HOF. Ric Flair vs Dusty Rhodes in a "Legends Match". In the Ultimate Main Event: The Ultimate Warrior returns to fight Vince McMahon with Bruno Sammartino as the Special Referee. How the Taker keep his Streak? One man 's interference: Bret "Hitman" Hart. Greatest WM EVER.

Have HBK drag a great match out of somebody else. I'll say it again: HBK and Taker have had FIVE singles matches. HBK is 5-0. This match writes itself, damnit. They've had five matches? I only remember three (Ground Zero which was a No Contest IIRC, HIAC and the Casket match which Michaels won). But the point is, Taker has never beaten Micahels one on one.
