I will never understand the Fascination with this Dude. All I ever saw in him was a 2 Dimensional Evil Foreigner The Greatest Heel? Is that a joke? JBL,Edge or even Miz got more Heat then him Agreed. IMO, he's the most overrated heel of modern times...possibly of all time. It's like people just "liked" him to show they weren't racist, or to be "edgy" or something.

I'm glad other guys consider Hassan overrated. I really never saw his appeal.

I loved Hassan's gimick and grew disinterested when it was just Davari out there. I know the timing was crap when they did the Maryrs funeral with Davari and the masked Jihadists, but you couldn't possibily beat the instant heat they got. What he said was profound and turned the accusitory finger at the fans who in thier turn lived up to what he said about the as apposed to the Shiek, Slaughter or a Russian who just said "USA phfewy" this was socially aware in the same way that the first version of LAX with Konnan as the mouth piece used what was happening in America with it's Hispanic population to get the same heat and pointed the same finger at the fans.

I won't say that, but he's in my top handful of favorites in the last 10 years or so.

I mean, he could get heat just by walking the ramp. Good on the mic and not bad in the ring. Just a shame about the timing of one of his promo's. Then Vince did the honourable thing and sacked him claiming it was all his own (Hassans) idea. Yeah as if creative would let a wrestler control his own gimmick. Hope he comes back one day, but I would understand if he never worked for Vinnie Mac ever again. ............................................______ __ ....................................,.-‘”...................``~., .............................,.-”...................................“-., .........................,/...............................................” :, .....................,?........................... ...........................\, .................../.................................................. .........,} ................./.................................................. ....,:`^`..} .............../.................................................. .,:”........./ ..............?.....__............................ .............:`.........../ ............./__.(.....“~-,_..............................,:`........../ .........../(_....”~,_........“~,_....................,:`. ......._/ ..........{.._$;_......”=,_.......“-,_.......,.-~-,},.~”;/....} ...........((.....*~_.......”=-._......“;,,./`..../”............../ ...,,,___.\`~,......“~.,....................`... ..}............../ ............(....`=-,,.......`........................(......;_,,-” ............/.`~,......`-...............................\....../\ .............\`~.*-,.....................................|,./.....\,__ ,,_..........}.>-._\...................................|........... ...`=~-, .....`=~-,_\_......`\,.................................\ ...................`=~-,,.\,...............................\ ................................`:,,.............. .............`\..............__ .....................................`=-,...................,%`>--==`` ........................................_\........ ..._,-%.......`\ ...................................,<`.._|_,-&``................`\

He got the right kind of heat, but for the wrong reason. Heels aren't supposed to be correct, they're supposed to be evil. With that said, he entertained me but it really wasn't that hard of a gig honestly. Any person with Arabian features could have pulled off that gimmick.

Agreed. I personally really liked him, and LIKED that it was a complex angle. I truly don't get what Loki is driving at. Are all wrestling angles supposed to be dumbed down and moronic? Is it taboo for something to have layers and be shades of grey, instead of black and white? Please clarify.

I really liked Hassan and his gimmick. He was more than any of the other two dimensional foreign heel we'd seen like any member of La Resistance.
To those who said anyone could have pulled off the gimmick and kept the same reaction. I point you to Daivari. He wasn't over at all after Hassan left. Same music. Same gimmick. No reaction.
Hassan wasn't the greatest in ring guy, but I'd rate him above Santino Marella who gets a pass for it because he's funny. Also he had a presence that most new guys never have. I'd go as far as say he had more presence than John Cena and Randy Orton compared to when they first debuted.
Maybe not the best, but up there in the top few.

I too wonder why it is so terrible to have a multi-dimensional character. All you can have are clean cut supermen and cheating villains? That's dull. It also plays to the dumbest demographic out there.
I thought Hassan was brilliant. I did like him because he was deeper and that he was right. His character spoke perfect english, he was born and raised in the United States, and because he looked different and was a member of a certain background, that automatically made him a bad guy. It really showed how ignorant people can be. I was surprised that the WWE did that actually.
Yeah, he wasn't the best in the ring, but he was capable, and if he had the drive for it, I think he would be main eventing now.

Jake Roberts' heel run against Randy Savage, Mick Foley's anti-hardcore promos in 1995 and Shane Douglas grabbing Pit Bull #1 by his surgical halo and shaking him all say "Not even close".

And who BETTER to have him playing off of than "The Marine" himself, John Cena? You'd have Hogan/Shiek 2....except, in this case, the Shiek would actually have a point.

I would say he somewhere in the middle for me. He was good at giving promos but as far as wrestling I don't remeber one great match with him. Again he was coming into WWE as an actor not as an athlete. I do miss that entrance theme though!

Not even close. I think his heat was based on the forced dialogue he and Daivari had to say about America and its foreign policy. Granted that much of what he said was probably true about how Arab Americans were treated and about some of America's policies, but WWE made him go beyond making valid points and say things that were done simply for heat. During this time frame, many in the American public were generally supportive of America's foreign policy and 9/11 was still fresh in the minds of the fans.
The best heel of modern times (depending on how you define modern times) might be Vince McMahon or Triple H. It's definitely not Muhammed Hassan. Anyone could have gotten heat with that character and with the things he was forced to do.

He went on and on about American's being assholes, of course he got heat. Could that same wrestler with no such gimmick draw heat without uttering a single word ala Triple H? Hell no.

Not even close... A well-thought, multi-layered character would have been too complicated, and ultimately pointless, in wrestling. It's not psychological theater, it's not writing class 301... Pro wrestling needs black-and-white characters people can identify/recognize in a matter of seconds. Oh, and any idiot could get tremendous heat by insulting the audience and calling them racists and bigots while wearing a keffiyeh and going to the ring with middle-eastern music. I disagree while not expecting wrestlers to turn up to the ring and start quoting Sheakspere or Chekov on the Mike. (Though HBK going "Alas poor Hogan I knew him well" would be interesting ) But they have had multilayered charachters before. Bret Harts heel turn where he was the good guy everywhere else but the villan in the USA was pretty good and some the arguments he used where very good. Another is Macho Man and Elizabeth. You had a crazy guy who is madly in love with this really nice woman was quite a good charachter. Even to a certain extent the Rock as well a guy who was really nice and booed turns into the Rock and mad at the fans because of it.
