I would have preferred WWE wanting to make a new world, like Earth-2 and DC and have a wrestling Crisis on Infinite Earth angle. Only if they dress up jobbers as Booster Gold and Blue Beetle. *marks out*

Part of me says merge the titles, but another part of my says that when done correctly, having two world titles (I only see two of their titles as world titles) can help establish more wrestlers as top wrestlers. One of the problems in my view is that they have let too many people win the World Heavyweight title. I think that title would mean a little more if they had not let Rey Mysterio, Khali, and CM Punk win it. I think the title worked really well with Chris Benoit and King Booker. They had never (and ended up never) winning the WWE title (what I consider the top title), but they were very much established and having a second world title was really fitting for them.

Merging is the way to go, easily.
I may not really watch WWE, but I did watch during the initial era of the "two world titles" idea, and, also, going by the way people talk around here, I think that it's true that fans don't really view the world titles as meaning all that much anymore. If someone on the creative team is really thinking that, they probably deserve to be head writer.
Thing is, everybody knows the product isn't 100% real, that all the belts and whatnot are just props, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't make those props seem as important and covet-worthy as possible. The simple fact that there are two world champions means that there isn't even an "undisputed" champion in the company, and each champion is only champion of half of the WWE's roster (or less).
It would IMMEDIATELY boost the credibility of the world title if it was unique from every other title in the company. The midcard belts could be exclusive to their own shows (IC and US), but a single world champ who has to fight the best each "brand" has to offer? Right away, it distinguishes the belt as someone more important and meaningful, since winning it would be the only way to prove you're the absolute best in the company; otherwise, again, you're only the best of one brand, not the whole enchilada.

Exactly. The belts are central to most of the company's storylines so it only makes sense you would try to make them seem as important as possible.

Yeah, and one more thing: why is "news" spelled with a z in the thread title?

Yeah, and one more thing: why is "news" spelled with a z in the thread title? It's an IWC thing which denotes it's probably not true.

Re: The Title:
"A Whole New World... With new Horizons to pursue..."
Anyway, if they do merge the belts, they still need an overall champion of each individual brand, a RAW and Smackdown championship. Otherwise the IC and US Belt will stop going to guys who need the boost, and start going to guys like Cena and Batista.

The article said a couple people in creative talked about it, that's all.
Why would people not believe that they talked about it? It says they brought it up and Vince didn't like it.

How so? It seems to me it could only help, assuming they'd be merging the two current 'world' titles. It'd just make it seem like they weren't REAL champs, hence the need of a new belt. I'm all for a Greay Big Prize, but I want it to not be a belt. It should be a fez.

Vince is smart enough to know that would be a burial for guys like that. Is that so? How'd it start?
