I sometimes forget how many Brits we have here. You guys have a lot of good wrestlers, though I for one do not understand how Big Daddy was as popular as he was. Seconded

I'm British and I struggle to understand alot of British accents so I can see why the WWE get them t change it I can hardly ever understand the scots, people from essex, Geordies and I also struggle with scousers. The chick I'm in love with is a scouser, and I can understand most people from Liverpool. I tried to apply for a job at a call centre though, but failed miserably because I had no idea what the interviewer was saying to me over the phone. He would also need to randomly punch out anyone walking down the hallway wearing a green or blue shirt, depending on who he's for. It's too bad Paul Burchill didn't get that to have that Football hooligan gimmick, but I guess nobody in the states would have got it. It would be like if a Canadian wrestler had a Newfie gimmick. People in Canada would love it, but nobody anywhere else in the world would get it.

Me neither, though I recall JR describing bigger guys with poor mat skills "attractions", popular because of the novelty factor created by their size rather than their skills as a wrestler, so I think that might have been something to do with his popularity. Probably. Wasn't the Queen a big fan of his? I'm more of a Johnny Saint fan.

im actually glad they have them put on such ridiculous accents, in my experience the real ones are often quite grating (no offense) None taken, for the most part people, well chicks, dig a Scots accent the world over! ;D Big Daddy was a specatacle for his size and personality, he was an awful wrestler but didnt need to be great, his matches were simple and always played to his strength.

I never got why Brits and Canadians seem so nice, while Americans and Austrailians seem to all be a little insane. This coming from an insane American.

About the accents, they NEED to get a Glaswegian on WWE. "Haw ya bawbag! You goat mah belt? Well this sunday, ah'm goany pure huv it back!" Coming to the ring to "Here we, Here we, Here we F***ing goooo" Go Square Go from Glasvegas lol. I'm up for anything to do with Glasvegas, so yes.

Scots accents can get so bad that they are even subtitling Rab C Nesbit episodes in England! some parts of Scotland I can't even understand. Aye, up north they've got some strange accents. I know a guy from Inverness, I can only understand about half of what he says. And not because he's Polish

Regal is a real case in point on the accent thing, he is a typical northerner in everyway aswell. Accent and personality. Very down to earth guy and nothing like he is on tv. Then again very few of the guys are anything like thier characters. He's not a Northerner - he's a Midlander. Born in a small place called Codsall Wood, on the edge of Wolverhampton. I heard he's also got a Black Country accent, which is about as far from his TV accent as you can get. Of the put-on accents, Katie's is the worst. And hey, she may not be getting much TV time at the moment, but at least she's not in an incest angle any more - that would have killed her WWE career,

i love regal's accent, since he tries to go posh, but there's one or two words he can't pronounce properly, so you get one or two thick blackpool words in the middle of an RP sentence, which i find hilarious. i think he lives in the black country now though, hence alot of brummie that occasionally comes through. if you hear any of his old promos from world of sport, you get like four different accents at the same time.
and BTW, i met drew ages ago and surprisingly that really is how he talks.
and as for the new talent, i think it's good that we're getting a new influx of brits. DJ gabriel is about a million times more awesome than he was when i saw him before WWE. and SOS should be good, he was starting to grow on me towards the end of IWW's run on TWC.

Max, actually. Max & Shirley Crabtree. And I think it was a combination of the fact that he was a rather unique performer at the time, had some weird charisma about him, and was just very different. Much like how Austin's anti-face gimmick was successful in part due to its at-the-time originality. I prefer Kendo Nagasaki myself though.

i''m thinking alot of big daddy's popularity was due to his use in tag matches. like, you'd have big daddy and johnny saint against giant haystacks and fit finlay. early on big daddy would bump into finlay a bit, and finlay would sell it to get the crowd excited. then saint would come in, and he and finlay would wrestle an actual match, saint would do the selling while finlay got some heat, occasionally tagging in haystacks to get a shot or two in. then at the end daddy and haystacks would fight a bit, then daddy would pin finlay. that way you still got a good match, and big daddy was the star of it, even though in reality he did bigger all.
i remember that happening alot, and to be fair he was booked quite cleverly.

I missed this Vade Hansen promo, what was it all about?
Also, I too am pleased at the British contingent in the WWE, although why they continue to not use Burchill is beyond me.

I find it weird how the sudden influx of British guys in America has come on at once. For years it was just Regal and a handful of virtually unknown guys in the indys. Now from about 2006 onwards we've had Regal, Burchill, The Highlanders, Dave Taylor, Finlay, McIntyre, Gabriel, Katie Lea, Layla, Stu Sanders/Lawrence Knight, Hade Vansen, Harry Smith (kinda counts) and thats just in the WWE.
Take TNA and the indys and theres Nigel McGuinness as the current ROH champ, Doug Williams in TNA (think he's fully signed a contract) Oblivion in TNA, Pac, Jonny Storm, Jody Fleisch who are all well known in the indy scene.
Weird for going so long with not many well known wrestlers we've suddenly had so many pop out...

I am from Liverpool and have thought a wrestler with a "scally scouse stereotype" gimmick could get insane amounts of heel heat in a british wrestling promotion. I'm thinking full on curly wig, moustache, entering the ring with a footie shirt on, a can of stella in one hand and someone's car radio / hubcap in the other, cutting a promo on the audience in a full-on Steven Gerrard accent.

Well, forget about Vansen for the time being - his call up's been stalled by Vince.
