I haven't seen the film myself (I'm actually set to watch it tomorrow afternoon!!) but reacting negatively to The Wrestler comes across as very defensive/shady to me. When you think about it, the events of Million Dollar Baby (about pro-boxing) were pretty horrific, and happens a lot more often than the 'broken-down wrestler' scenario. But Don King was actually IN the movie, not trying to sweep the ugliness under a rug.
Bad things happen in life. Even in WWE's magical pro-wrestling kingdom-- just ask relatives of Nancy Benoit, or the Hart family. It doesn't make sense to pretend otherwise, Vince.

Even in WWE's magical pro-wrestling kingdom-- just ask relatives of Nancy Benoit, or the Hart family. It doesn't make sense to pretend otherwise, Vince. I don't think the message in Million Dollar Baby was anything like the message in The Wrestler, hell, aside from one part, I don't think it even really painted boxing in a bad light. That said, dude, it's Don King. He's not the chair of a major boxing organization, he's a guy that would do anything for money. I think if someone is going to do something that casts your livelihood in a negative light, you're going to defend it. That's what they're doing and that's all you can really expect them to do. It's not an admission of guilt to defend your livelihood, it's what you do when people try to cast it in a negative light. People criticize my livelihood all the time and I defend it when I think it's unfair. To expect otherwise is unreasonable. And from what I got from their response, it in no way was meant to indicate that bad things don't happen, it's that the lifestyle of wrestler portrayed in the movie isn't representative of their performers. The Benoit or Owen Hart incidents don't really have much to do with that, unless they're referenced in the movie (it's not out here, so I can't say for sure).

I honestly thought Vince hated "The Wrestler", because he thinks it should be called "The Entertainer"

While 'The Wrestler' is a very engaging movie, it portrays how wrestling was conducted in some independent wrestling circuits, unlike WWE, which is a global brand with millions of fans" The WWE doesn't use the words wrestling or fans.

I saw the movie last night.I think Vince's hate for the movie is that they talk about Randy the Ram working at the Garden and at the Spectrum two places you would have had to work for Vince if you were going to work there. So the film in a round about way tries to make him a washed up WWF wrestler.

It's both ridiculous and hillarious that the WWE tries to say that the movie is not connected to the company in any way. Guess what Vince, people like me have been involved with the history of wrestling since we first learned how to walk, and with the help of the Internet and behind-the-scenes stuff, the world of the wrestling business has been thoroughly exposed. Nice try pal.
